Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Sep 11, 2011 2:53 pm For those of you who have gone up a bedsize from queen to king..............did you notice any significant difference to your comfort &/or space ? DH likes to sprawl & I often wake up with stiff limbs or arms gone to sleep . When we stayed in a hotel last year with a king bed, it was one of the BEST sleeps of my life .....SO MUCH SPACE . I wonder now though, whether the bed was actually a king as I can't see how an extra 30cm in width can make such a significant difference. What do you think ? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 2Sep 11, 2011 3:17 pm The difference is huge! We upgraded while I was pregnant the second time since we had a 2 yo who liked to share our bed and I was sick of being squished up uncomfortably. Now, the 5yo, the 2yo and dh and I can all sleep if we have to. It feels like so much more than 30cm, you can fit three pillows across the top, brilliant. I'm never going back!! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 3Sep 11, 2011 3:46 pm As above, the change is immense ! We had a foam latex king which was too damm hard to shift in our constant moving around so we sold it and bought an ordinary queen ensemble. Had that queen for 12 months and could no longer get a good nights sleep, so we then used that queen as a guest bed and bought a king sized ensemble and will never sleep on anything else again. So much more room for two restless sleepers. From a males point of view I have more room to escape my wife's wandering cold feet ! The kids come running in in the morning and the bed manages to hold all four of them plus us. Only problem is I now hate it when we go away as I have limited places to stay (If they don't have a king bed I scrub them off my stay list) Go for one if you are ready to upgrade, you won't look back. Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 4Sep 11, 2011 4:55 pm Southies, once we FINALLY move, we will be upgrading to a King. I cannot wait! I hate our queen, especially when the little one ends up in bed with us. Similar to you, the other half is a spreader and I end up all cramped and have a terrible sleep. Can't wait. We are going to have this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 5Sep 11, 2011 5:23 pm isnt it interesting how previous generations managed with double beds, now queen beds are the norm and then people want king size I have a queen bed; apart from anything else, is far easier to get linen for than a double or a king. However, going agaisnt the grain here - we slept in a king size bed on holiday last year and didnt like it- you are too far away from each other, I like to be able to feel him next to me. And we are not small people. Admittedly no littlies to share bed with though Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 6Sep 11, 2011 6:17 pm Its all about how you sleep I think, my best friend has a queen bed, her and her husband spoon when they sleep so perfectly adequate. Im a terrible restless sleeper, so my hubbie insisted on a king or matching beds next to each other, we have the king. When we holiday we usuaaly manage the queen for a set space of time. Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 8Sep 11, 2011 8:22 pm We have a King Size and would never go back to a queen. Love our King Size!!! Before we saved the money to buy our king size bed, we got a king size doona and used it with the queen size bed. It helped my husband when I 'hogged' the covers!! It was definately not as good as getting the king bed but a good compromize. Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 9Sep 11, 2011 10:43 pm It is amazing! After way too many restless nights sleep in our Queen bed , DP went out and spent a chitload on a King size ensemble and never looked back, the linen is more expensive but you can get it for fairly good deals online. We can both pretty much spread out without touching...I find the king doonas look a bit small on our bed so I go for the super king and then I can hog more of it during the night too The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... I agree with you Helyn. I love our king, it is very comfortable and I don't want to go back, but I do miss the sense that he is right there. The king is so big that I wouldn't know if he was there or not. It takes 2 rolls to cross over for a cuddle. It's a more social sleep in a smaller bed Do it Southies, you will love it. SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 11Sep 12, 2011 9:05 am Would never ever go back to a queen size again. Like someone said earlier - we automatically look now and change any hotel accom if they don't have king beds. My parents have only last week upgraded to a queen bed after 44yrs of having a double bed. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 12Sep 12, 2011 9:27 am Mmmm, interesting comments! Though I thought they'd pretty much confirm what I've been thinking. What with my lousy sleeping patterns , being over heated ( girls, you know what I'm talking about), etc...... & a DH who likes to sleep diagonally , I just want to have a decent night's sleep!! Is that too much to ask for?? It's almost as bad as having babies again You know what'll happen, though ? My darling DH will spread out even more in a king bed or more likely 'chase' me to my side of the bed Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 14Sep 12, 2011 11:41 am KING KING KING KING (Or two king singles pushed together <- actually my preference - I think you can still use king sheets) My friend gave me two pieces of relationship advice: 1. Have seperate doonas how on earth have we stayed married for over 25 years without following either peice of advice Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 17Sep 12, 2011 9:29 pm Helyn Well we have just gone to a Queen bed from a double after 14 years. A queen seems MASSIVE to me, there is so much space. I love the fact there is room for the kiddies to come in for a snuggle (there really isn't much extra in a double) but even in a queen size I feel too far away from DH- takes some getting used to - I think i'd hate a king size bed, I'd get lonely My parents are happily married 42 years -in a double bed. They have a queen size bed in their spare room but are comfy in a double. BUT...I say upsize southies, tell him the extra 30cms is yours! SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 19Sep 12, 2011 11:19 pm suh Yep big difference and loved the space until the dog moved in and DH decided to cuddle a pillow and everyone moved closer to my side I am literally on the edge of a king size bed Me too! We upgraded to a king as our third child decided that wherever I sleep, she shall follow and she sprawls ... sigh. A king means darling clingon can sprawl without pushing DH and I completely off the bed. ------------ Sent from my mobile device ... please excuse the typing missed cakes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: SIZE OF QUEEN BED VS KING ?? 20Sep 13, 2011 11:09 am We find the King Size Magic when the kids are in the bed.
