Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jul 01, 2011 10:06 am We have hired a licensed painter to paint our house- who we dealt with before so were expecting no problems. However he is meant to finish today and we said the windows and doors need two coats enamel still as htey have only had 1 prep coat. He is saying industry standard is 2 prep coats, 1 enamel. (This is besides the fact most windows and all doors only had one coat). Can anyone shed some light on this? Re: HELP!- Industry Standard- painting windows 2Jul 06, 2011 12:24 pm Hi Turnip, Unfortunately the term "industry standard" doesn't count for much especially in the painting trade. I can tell you that a lot of new home interiors (Qld) are generally sprayed with one coat of sealer/undercoat on walls and frames followed up by 1 or 2 coats of low sheen and one coat of Gloss enamel on doors and frames. It is Bizzare that it is something agreed to in a contract between the painter and Builder, with the owner in most cases having no idea. In conclusion, unless you have stipulated in your contract with the builder/painter that you want 2 x gloss coats you will almost always get 1. Indeed if you told him you wanted 2 coats I would assume he has quoted for 2 (several hundred dollars difference!) Hopefully you have a written quote from the painter to use in your defence!
