Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jun 14, 2011 5:46 pm Hi All, Finally painting will commence in two weeks Thought I would help out by preping the hair line cracks above doors and on window cills. What is the best way to attack these? Sand back blistering on crack then fill with polyfilla? Anything to do after that. Also cleaning walls - my walls are pretty clean could I just dust them over or go with the warm water and a cloth? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Re: Preping Interior Walls for Painting 2Jun 14, 2011 5:59 pm mook44 Hi All, Finally painting will commence in two weeks Thought I would help out by preping the hair line cracks above doors and on window cills. Thanks in advance Hi mook, great to hear your painting is about to start. If the walls are clean, I would wipe them over with warm water and a cloth, we have used sugar soap before, prior to painting. We thought we would get our keys today, but the paint work is still not right, not happy, it's like banging your head against a brick wall as far as the painters are concerned. We have our final cheque, but I will be holding on to that till the sun don't shine if I have to. looking forward to pictures of your painted walls. Re: Preping Interior Walls for Painting 3Jun 14, 2011 6:02 pm Thanks Deb, you will be glad when you can just all settle in!!!! Think warm water will do maybe a touch of sugar soap in the kitchen though where it gets a bit greasy!!!!! Will def send pics especially of red feature wall Re: Preping Interior Walls for Painting 4Jun 15, 2011 10:16 am mook44 Thanks Deb, you will be glad when you can just all settle in!!!! Re: Preping Interior Walls for Painting 5Jun 18, 2011 12:17 pm hey mook44 You should rake out the cracks so they become a little deeper....like a valley... then give them a skim coat of something like pollyfiller interior. Dont try to get it flush in one coat of filler....it usually shrinks a little anyway, then when dry give it another skim coat. Dont try to overfill it thinking that sanding will make it flush. Of course the sanding will make it flush.. but you're creating more work for yourself. Most important to use the right filler tho. On more than one occasion ive started a painting job to find the owner has "helped out" by filling with 2pack epoxy filler. Hope all goes well Cheers...Scott Re: Preping Interior Walls for Painting 6Jun 18, 2011 7:04 pm Hi Scott, Thanks for your suggestions although they haved a arrived a little laste and I think I may have created more work for the painter haha. The hirline cracks werent wide enough for much to go in, thought of digging more out then I got scared thinking I was ruining the wall so I have crated more of a bulge than anything! haha - Oh well all a learning experience!!!!! Although I mastered filling up all the holes created by blinds and wall hangings!!!!! Might just hide when the painter arrives next weekend!!!!!
