Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jun 06, 2011 11:50 am When we moved into our house I noticed that our doors and skirting boards have all been painted with the matte wall paint, while the door trims and window architraves are in full gloss. At most the doors may be in a satin finish but I don't think so. Is that the norm these days? I don't really have an opinion one way or another but if asked I would have chosed the doors and skirtings to be full gloss mainly because that is what I have been used to, but also due to durability. Re: Matte paint on doors and skirting boards? 2Jun 06, 2011 12:20 pm We will be painting our doors and skirting boards in high gloss. Re: Matte paint on doors and skirting boards? 3Jun 06, 2011 4:11 pm Doors, skirtings and architraves in our place are oil-based high gloss enamel. Walls, ceilings, cornices are matt acrylic. I must say that the 'high gloss' doesn't look so high gloss to me, more like a satin, but I did find the left over paint tins and am going off that. Re: Matte paint on doors and skirting boards? 4Jun 12, 2011 7:26 pm I would definitely go full gloss for doors, architraves and skirting boards every time. These are all surfaces that get handled, grubby and in the case of skirting boards, dusty, and gloss is so much more durable, and easier to wipe down. Plus it adds a nice contrast to low sheen or matt walls. Re: Matte paint on doors and skirting boards? 5Jun 12, 2011 7:42 pm I went for low sheen doors, skirtings and architraves so it blends in with the walls and has a more modern look. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in.
