Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jan 12, 2008 12:26 pm We will be building in May this year and are after some advice on colour selection. We have a designer doing our joinery and will assist with finishes, but we are stumped on external colours.
The house is single storey with scillion roofline. It has a large bifold at the front with a timber deck and long half height bluestone selkirk blocks (390mmx90mm) as highlight features on the house and at the front of the deck. (see selkirk website under bricks/ concrete blocks/ bluestone/ rough surface). We were thinking: roof - shale grey/ windspray or similar light colour. Ironstonemay also look alright? windows - commercial looking 'chunky' style aluminium with perhaps the bifold being timber? house bagged in darker colour, unsure? (attached picture has cladding which will now just be bagged. sliding door is now bifold, long window next to bifold is now a small square 600x600 window) We would be grateful for any feedback please. The only hard thing is not knowing you, and knowing your likes and dislikes. Colour wise that is. The grey roof is a good idea, I would lean towards the Woodland Grey….the darkest of the greys. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now from this you get to work with lighter greys on the facades. What colour colorbond garage door are you having…..again I would suggest the Woodland grey if you can get it. I like a timber door, like P’s photo, they are timeless. If not you need a bold colour to ascent the greys. Possibly a grey/purple? Our designer has done a great job at interpreting what we want.
Woodland grey looks great. We are a bit worried about fading. We like contemporary styling with classic finishes (stone, timber etc), hence the modern use of bluestone and a timber door. We are unsure about the garage door, but the designer thinks we should blend it with the colour of the bagging so it doesn't stand out as a feature. Michelle, So you think it would look weird having timber bifolds at the front and aluminium or colourbond colour for the remainder of the windows? Re: Colours for a contemporary home 5Jan 13, 2008 12:17 pm If you’re having a timber front door…(did I read that right?) you have already introduced the timber….I think the aluminium windows will look good, I like a home with as many selections tastefully done as it can have!
