Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Apr 05, 2011 6:14 pm Hi my partner and I recently purchased our first home. We receive the keys on the 21st! So until then we have been getting quotes, ideas etc etc for little projects we have in mind once we move in. But our problem is we dont know how to bring the exterior of the house up to date. Any ideas would be appreciated. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Uploaded with ImageShack.usL] Re: Help modernise our home! 2Apr 05, 2011 6:22 pm Wow congratulations! nice looking home. Doesn't look like alot to do from the picture. The roof looks ok, maybe not long ago resurfaced? colour wise the roof is good. I'd get rid of the shutter things either side of the windows and maybe render the house. Obviously paint eaves etc... I'd also maybe look into getting rid of those 3 big trees out the front (depending on how much privacy you want/need i guess). I'd change the fence too! again, congratulations Re: Help modernise our home! 3Apr 05, 2011 9:09 pm Wow what a great looking house, house is not to bad I think driveway could do with a face lift. Re: Help modernise our home! 4Apr 06, 2011 9:27 am Lilmsreno yeah were looking at getting rid of those trees and the shutters are definetely going! We want to paint those orange bits on the side of the roofs but we dont know what colour. Patty the house might look great outside, but inside every wall is wallpapered! even in the toilet and bathroom! haha. Re: Help modernise our home! 5Apr 06, 2011 9:38 am Render the house and change the front fence. Make the side gate match. I'd do something about the big trees at the front.... they're blocking the facade. Also look at changing the windows if their old looking and you an afford it. So many options... you could go to town spending a fortune. Re: Help modernise our home! 6Apr 15, 2011 10:40 pm Painting - the garage doors and the orange bits - fascias? Get rid of the shutters. Those arch-like pieces between the metal posts, if you can't get rid of them, maybe put some sort of facing over them. Driveway - cleaning and painting - stencilling wouldn't cost a fortune. Replace the fence. Otherwise, it's the garden for me, it's quite dated, more modern landscaping. Re: Help modernise our home! 7Apr 15, 2011 11:19 pm I agree with the above, but adding change the letterbox, and the side return gate you need to get rid of the arches and the mission brown at least they are giving it a dated look. Congrats on the new home. All those big bushes have to go. Remove those shutters next to the windows. Change the curves at the top of the posts around your varandah to make them more square. Curved looks outdated. New driveway Render the house. Paint those orangey bits on the roof. Colour would depend on which colour render you use. Update fence to match render colour. Perhaps rendered posts(with letterbox enclosed) with horizontal timber beams/pailings to make the fence? Is that giant antenna attached to your house or the neighbours? If it's yours, get a smaller more modern one. It's only a small thing but those antennas were from years ago and I think it dates the house. Rendering might be quite expensive, perhaps later on. Waterblast or clean the brick. Take off the shutters, we are all agreed. The orange ends, green gutters and green garage door, yuk. Paint them all a uniform colour, perhaps a taupe or warm grey. The garden is old fashioned. You may be able to transplant the dark green tree at the base of the drive and the one nearest the garage door to your side boundry for privacy. The other trees have outgrown their places and face the tip. Seems a shame to rip out your fences if they are in good nick. You may be able to paint them a more subtle colour and grow a hedge along in behind the front, so the leaves detract from the pickets tops. Or you could rip out the fences and grow green glossy hedges in those places Re: Help modernise our home! 11May 23, 2013 10:04 pm If you're still looking for ideas, I would definitely pressure wash the driveway, you can get someone to do it for you or buy a pressure washer from bunnings or a hardware store and do it yourself, it will make your driveway look new again . My house is only 9 years old but the driveway looked old and tired so I pressure washed it and now it looks new again. If your driveways in good condition just pressure wash it don't bother painting it or getting it completely re done We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
