Considering we will live here for a long time we're doing it properly. Re: Do I really need sealer? 4Mar 03, 2011 4:19 pm the fresh plaster is like a sponge - even the oil based sealer was sucked in in a matter of seconds... there are no shortcuts when it comes to painting... I'm not sure what's the process for cement render. Might be different. Different story. Re: Do I really need sealer? 8Mar 04, 2011 12:28 pm hey , external cement render needs to cure for 6 weeks to be full cured ( as per spec ) then you can paint if not you can " Possibly " have the problem of moisture of the cement render sweat underneath the paint membrane creating a bubbling effect and cause to peel, blister and flake , however acrylic render doesn't it can be painted the next day so i hear . ( dont hold me to that i havnt read the bag specs ) most External premium paints have a self priming ability so that way you can paint straight onto render . what i would recommend is Dulux aquatex aquasheild now this is a membrane texture. it is far far better than regular paint as it is very thick and allows for greater membrane build allowing for resistance to render cracking. for me its cheaper than weathersheild x10. now for dulux guarantee you can opt for the aquashield sealer, however weathersheild does not require a sealer. its just what your time and budget can afford however weathersheild is an awesome product against peeling fading etc. on a normal house you would benefit from a 3 coat system not 2. possibly cut twice ,roll 3 times looks much better. i would recommend thinning it down a little as it is really thick and opting for a Matt finish not low sheen, on the contrary to what most think external matt finish is just as washable as lowsheen and will allow for better visual effect. ie no sheering shin on render inconstancies . Hope this helps Glenn Re: Do I really need sealer? 9Mar 04, 2011 3:39 pm The sealer will provide a more uniform finish in the look of the final coat. Using 2 coats is ok too, it wont peel of flake...but it wont look as nice as the 1 coat acrylic sealer followed by the 2 finish coats. do not pay until you are satisfied with workmanship windows require flashing over the head archithrave and up under weatherboards 3 28256 Thank you so much for the effort.
