Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jan 01, 2011 12:37 pm Has anyone used Dulux White Duck in their home? Do you have any pictures to share and is it full strength, half strength or quarter strength? After going through numerous paint samples I decided on Dulux White Duck. (with white ceilings and vivid white trims) I like the fact that it is a nice neutral colour without being "yellowy". It also looks nice with my tile colour and cupboard colour (porcelain gloss) My husband has started painting the kid's bedrooms in white duck at 1/4 strength. So far it is looking lovely. I think it looks nice and 'fresh' in the kids rooms and is the best option because the kids will each have a very bold feature wall and the white duck 1/4 strength will look nice with the 4 very different coloured feature wall colours. I am concerned, however that it will look 'too white' in areas like the bathroom and main living areas. I think it probably needs to be half strength or possibly even full strength in the bathroom and possibly the living areas. I think the bathrooms need a bit more 'warmth' to make it work with the tile colours. My husband has been buying paint a bit at a time and so far he has enough paint to finish the kids wing. I'm not sure whether to have him paint the rest of the house in quarter strength and keep the house the same colour throughout or have him change to half strength for the rest of the house OR keep it quarter strength and just do the bathrooms in the half strength. Hmm! I'm not sure what to do and thought some real life examples might help me make the decision. Re: Dulux White Duck 2Jan 01, 2011 7:27 pm somewoman has it on the front facade, both full and 1/4. Jayneylou has it on walls in 1/2. Would you mind sharing pics of yours, now that you are already there? Actually, a good pic of your bathroom would definitely be good too, it's easier to suggest this or that when you see all the bathroom colours together. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Dulux White Duck 3Jan 02, 2011 10:03 am Thanks Lex. I did a seach on H1 and stumbled across Jayneylou's before I posted my question. I think I was just hoping that someone out there in "H1 world" may have used White Duck and had some photos of their home all furnished/ with window covering etc so that I could get an idea of what the final result could potentially look like to help me make my decision. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of my kids bedrooms painted. I have called in quickly to poke my head in and take a look at progress but didn't take my camera with me. I think those rooms will be fine I'm just finding it hard to imagine what it will look like with window coverings and flooring etc. Hopefully I'll get a chance to call down to the house and take some pictures in the next couple of days. Other than what is in my building thread I don't have any other bathroom pics (for the same reason as above)...and again hopefully I will get a chance to get some pics soon. My husband actually began painting the ensuite in 1/4 white duck and wasn't able to finish before the tilers came in- Unfortunately the colours in the photos haven't come up how they look in real life but it might give you a bit of an idea (in the meantime) Re: Dulux White Duck 4Jan 02, 2011 5:18 pm Miss, I didn't use White Duck, I used Wattyl White Pepper and it is very, very close to match for White Duck. There's a few on here that have used the White Pepper so, if you do a search on that you'll find heaps of picks to give you an idea. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Dulux White Duck 5Jan 14, 2011 2:40 pm Just saw this post - a few months on and I still love my White Duck 1/2 walls - it's come up really well of the stark whiteness of Lexicon 1/4. I was originally really nervous about going to 1/2 on the walls and my original selection was 1/4 but the colour consultant advised that if I wanted a warmer feel to the walls and a clear difference between the trims/cornices and the walls I would need to go to 1/2 - especially in rooms with lots of light. Re: Dulux White Duck 6Jan 14, 2011 9:30 pm I'm pleased to hear you are happy with your decision Janeylou. We've decided to use White Duck Half Strength. The kids' rooms (which will all have feature walls and are separate from the main living area) have been painted White duck QUARTER strength. Two of the bedrooms don't receive a lot of light so we didn't want them to be too dark (especially with dark feature walls) Now my next decision is a colour for a few walls in the main part of the house. I just can't decide! I'm trying to find a neutral colour that is 'darker' that will complement white duck (or possibly even toying with the idea of going with something 'bold') Hmm Decisions! Decisions! Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well.
