Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 16, 2010 11:42 am Hi everyone, I am after some advice, please be honest - good and bad..prefer to look at all options Our home is a older spanish style with arches at the front but not on the windows I am in the process of modernising with a beach theme, we are very close to the beach, 45 metres. We are having gabled roof pergola built, 21m x 4m, at the rear in the next few weeks. The colour selection for beach style living is limited, with Colourbond 'Deep Ocean' the only choice in blue. Our tiled roof is being painted this week, we have chosen the same colour. We are on a corner block so the roof line will be visible from a few angles. I would like the walls (already rendered) to be painted in white? There are so many whites however, I am confused..I am concerned it could be too glarey. If I choose an 'off white' it may look creamy. Also, I am wondering now if it may look too top heavy with such a dark roof? HELP!! Re: Exterior Advice for Roof and Walls? Beach living? 2Nov 16, 2010 1:32 pm Hey beachbabe welcome to the forum. Could you post a picture for us? You'll need to use an image hosting site like photobucket or tinypic. Are you able to change the Deep Ocean or is that locked in? Do you need suggestions for both roof and render or just render? I think with your beach theme, you could do greys/whites/blues and it would look great. Do you have any pictures you are usuing for insipration? Cheers Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Exterior Advice for Roof and Walls? Beach living? 3Nov 16, 2010 3:21 pm Hi, Hope this works, I was unable to add the photos http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww14 ... enovating/ self explanantory photos The colours are not locked in yet so time to change I have been looking at beach house books and bay living books. We have a beach theme interior with a new white open plan kitchen. The kitchen doors have been made with grooves in them to have a board look / timber appearance. All walls were professionally painted white, we have striped deck chairs in the kitchen etc in aqua/green blue from Freedom. The new patio doors will lead out to the new pergola. The tiling is yet to be finished All our pictures on the walls are of beach themes, or grandchildren playing at the beach, lighthouses photos we have taken & of the sea..Shells, old glass, driftwood etc are all part of the theme. I don't want it be drab outside as I want to do the garden with rope and coastal plants etc. I was unsure originally, if to go Tuscan style, but I am over the terracottas and wrought iron look thanks for your time Re: Exterior Advice for Roof and Walls? Beach living? 5Nov 17, 2010 6:58 am Well done on the photos! You just neeed to add the [IMG] code for bulletin boards - and it'll show the image Not sure if this is deep ocean. but it came up in a google search (from Honeone!) Hang on I'll see if I can find it. Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Exterior Advice for Roof and Walls? Re: Exterior Advice for Roof and Walls? Beach living? 7Nov 17, 2010 8:26 am I'm not familiar with how blue deep ocean is but I would be worried about a blue tiled roof. I would prefer grey. I think your idea of white on the outside will give it a real greek island feel. You really need to test a few whites on different walls to see how it will look, though. If you don't want it very white, and you get a lot of sun, Dulux china White might work. It's a fairly 'dark' white but still cool toned. Re: Exterior Advice for Roof and Walls? Beach living? 9Nov 17, 2010 12:19 pm We painted our house in Surfmist (colourbond colour which all paint companies do) Its a nice white an not stark or glarey. Roof and gutters are also surfmist, garage door and windows are woodland grey.
