Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 09, 2010 5:58 pm Ok , so after 8years+ in the house, given we need to sell it early next year, we've finally painted our master bedroom. Just some quick pics, don't look too close, I didn't clean up before hand! ANd don't mind the jumping boy, he thinks its a trampoline! Its hard to show the true colour of the walls, the ones with flash looked all washed out Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The walls are dulux limed white which I think goes really well with the new curtains (which need ironing) and the quilt cover (which isn't made properly) I plan a trip to Ikea tomorrow to find some new lamps (open to suggestions) But, I figure for sale I need to put something up on the wall, either behind the bed or on the wall above the chest of drawers, cos I think the room looks a little empty and unpersonal? I had orginally planned to put this decal above the bed head Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ WHich I do love, but plan to put in the new house, so don't want it here too I was thinking something like this decal then (cashing in on partity with the USD) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But I'm just stuck, so help me oh wise ones! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Finishing master bed help please! 2Nov 09, 2010 6:08 pm I'm not a wise one but would like to try and help! If you are planning on selling it would probably be best not to use the decals. I think you just need some colour. What about bright cushions, bright lamps and a mirror or print (tying in your bright colour) above your chest of drawers. With your colours you could use an aqua, teal, purple, hot pink ... Sound ok? Re: Finishing master bed help please! 3Nov 10, 2010 1:55 pm I agree with fairy blue. Keep the decals for the new place & maybe get a print for over the bed (preferably one you'd love to hang in your new house, obviously). I'm a big fan of limed white, BTW. Good job! Re: Finishing master bed help please! 4Nov 10, 2010 7:59 pm shame there are bricks outside the window, maybe keep the blinds half down, see how they have the blinds half down.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ get a new batten ceiling light shade that you like and can take with you, the one there is a bit boring and can go back up once you sell. (something chandeliery!) a fab mirror above the set of drawers would make it feel like a 'pampering space' if you put some nice perfums on the dresser and a lovely lamp. pop some art on the walls, and get the loveliest bedding you can, with lots of texture and fluff in the pillows etc the colour could be in the art and in the bedding. you can take both of them so get stuff YOU like, the 2 lamps there, although small, would work if you clear the tables and just have them with a book on one and a vase of flowers on the other. can you get tie backs for the curtains? make the room look like a hotel. The whole house needs to look like a show home. Dont forget to post piccies!!! good luck with selling, hope it goes quick for you http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac174/kandykisses_10/SMILIES/GOODLUCK.gif oow, you got my 1000th post!! Re: Finishing master bed help please! 6Nov 10, 2010 11:45 pm oo kiwi, thanks so much for the 1000th post, not to mention the great advice! I might look into some film for the windows, I usually keep the blinds down, but they'd be up for open for inspections so will work on it. thanks, you've given me a starting point:) my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Finishing master bed help please! 7Nov 11, 2010 5:26 am I thought about opaque film too, but wasnt sure if you would be into covering the view completely. if you are, then you could get some etched 'glass' so it has some sort of pattern and the view shows through the pattern but not very much. will see if I can find something to show you. you dont want it to look like bathroom glass.... so excited to see what you come up with. also get a chair. (2nd hand shop...wooden ugly thing you can paint it in the wall colour and drap something shimmery over it, to give it a shabby french look..but not ott, just a hint!) and tell the cat to sit on it for open homes, so it looks a comforting room (not sure if you have a cat, but again second hand shops!! ha ha) scourer (sp?) 2nd hand shops for the bits you need so you are not spending much.. ie cheap Re: Finishing master bed help please! 8Nov 11, 2010 5:56 am like this...so it looks sandblasted Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I see you have a chair in the room already, can you paint it a shabby chic? I have those wall decals...I have a french skyline, mine is going in my kitchen when it is built. I really like them. you can get them on ebay america for about $2! I have this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Hello-Paris-Eiffel- ... 1c16f8c36e scroll to the bottom to see it on the wall. comes on one sheet Re: Finishing master bed help please! 9Nov 11, 2010 11:37 am Yeah, I was thinking something like that for the window too. The chair thats in the pics doesn't go in the room, i've got a cane tub chair that goes next to the chest of drawers, that'll have a nice cushion and something shimmery on it Not a cat tho, they make me sneeze I'm having trouble finding new lamps, all the ones I've seen are either revolting, or horribly expensive so will have to keep looking I'm tossing up if I should buy new bed linen or not my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Finishing master bed help please! 10Nov 11, 2010 12:15 pm What about this linen? Still in the same colour family but a bit crisper looking, plus the reviews say its shimmery and stuff http://www.oo.com.au/Orient_Sense_King_ ... ader-20357 my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Finishing master bed help please! 11Nov 11, 2010 12:36 pm oow, nice. makes it about $75 aud incl postage. I would get it. I wouldnt bother with 2 new lamps, use the white ones you have. If you find one lamp (last in stock etc) for the dresser for $15 etc get that for there, otherwise just the really cool mirror...might cost you a bit, but will be worth the wow factor. (Venetian would rock) you can take it with you anyway and then use it in the hall of your new home etc (You see that corner from your bed, so you want it to be nice. and a mirror will make it sparkle) http://www.designspongeonline.com/2007/ ... ap-up.html Re: Finishing master bed help please! 12Nov 11, 2010 12:57 pm I've got a free shipping code, which is even better! I was thinking a mirror above the drawers, either this in white http://www.ezibuy.com.au/homeware/home- ... 71500.shtm or this (the black would match the lamps and drawer handles) and I could hand pretty necklaces off the hook http://www.ezibuy.com.au/homeware/home- ... 71499.shtm my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Finishing master bed help please! 13Nov 11, 2010 2:40 pm well the heart mirror made me go "wowow' so I think that is the one, cos potential buyers will also go wowowo!! and buy your home. so the bedroom is grey and white? (get rid of the baby poo duvet cover on there now....I know, matches the curtains...but we are going sooppphistacation) I am sure in real life the fawn looks great, but in photos (which is what people will see on a website) it doesnt look that flash hot. sorry, had to be said. maybe with cushions on it will look the biz, but it just doesnt do it in photos. not with a swanky new mirror and a cheap batten chandalier on the ceiling! even something like this...cheap and cheerful http://www.lightingplus.co.nz/products/ ... ndant.html Re: Finishing master bed help please! 14Nov 11, 2010 3:13 pm The wall colour is kinda grey/brown, its really hard to describe. The ensuite which is to the left and open has grey tiles to the ceiling, so in that door frame the walls look grey, but we tried some charcoal curtains and they made the walls look REALLY yellow/browny. The curtains are mocha or latte or some other coffee-ish colour and match really well, which is why I thought that linen. I'm hesitant to change the light over, by the time we buy the light and pay someone to fix the new one, patch the ceiling etc But, I might get a fancy lamp to put on the dresser or on the floor behind the chair when it goes back The quilt cover was bought for me, so its ok I'm thinking of getting these cushions http://www.etsy.com/listing/58239351/tw ... hion-throw and one of these http://www.etsy.com/listing/54581281/ch ... hion-cover my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Finishing master bed help please! 15Nov 11, 2010 3:38 pm They do look good. (curtains) and I agree...they go with the duvet. but we are going WHAM! re light shade...dont get a hanging pendant. Get a battan/ batten fitting so you can use the battan that is there now holding that shade up. I agree, dont get an electrican in to do a pendant...you want BATTEN (sp?!) like this...this is about $23 Get one second hand off ebay. prob be $12! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ like the pillows, but too much $$$$ you want to spend about $150 on the room (new linen, second hand other stuff) do you have any art to put behind the bedhead, or behind the 2 lamps? Do what dee did and get fabric and cover a canvas with a staple gun (she used a t towel) I hope you dont mind me putting my 50 cents in...I do wait to see if anyone else will reply...honest!! Re: Finishing master bed help please! 16Nov 11, 2010 3:50 pm http://cgi.ebay.com/Flush-Mount-Light-S ... 1c16ea203e maybe not this exactly! but you would be surprised how many people actually notice a nice ceiling fitting.. and you can take it with you. http://cgi.ebay.com/FUSION-CEILING-2-LI ... 4cf307fe6c you could always buy one, then 'change your mind' and return it...hee hee did I say that out loud! Re: Finishing master bed help please! 17Nov 11, 2010 4:24 pm rofl! Thankyou for the input, its nice to have some input on things, I ask DH and he goes "whatever" Will look into a nicer light over the weekend. I've ordered the linen, the mirror and the zigzag cushion (cos I really liked that one!) Will see how we go from there my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Finishing master bed help please! 18Nov 11, 2010 5:05 pm I think my Dh is your dh's brother great,...you are nearly there. are you using the zig zag pillow on the chair (I would! I would get something furry or glittery for the bed..silver or grey...same tones as the bed..maybe even black to match mirror) ...texture. the zig zag has colour but no texture the light will give some bling..and you are done. (good luck with finding something. I am sure you will. Dont spend heaps though) I wouldnt bother with film, just half pull the blinds down and tie the large curtains back to get maximum light in. I saw some tie backs which were just made with some long bling necklaces..you know, cheap and tacky from the $2 shop. (it was on showhouse ireland) she had put a little hook in the wall..tiny, and drapped this necklace around each curtain. Was really effective and sparkly...again more texture and a little bling. tie backs can be so expensive. go to the sally army and find 2 necklaces the same...the ladies are probably wearing them, so ask them to sell them to you!! or make something with beads...or fancy lace, ribbon etc just dont spend lots of money as that is your profit from your home. I wouldnt spend more than $50 on the light, otherwise get a $50 floor lamp for that corner and have it on. if you do get a ceiling shade, just swap the ceiling light when you leave back to the 'old yawn one' for the new owners! I bought a droopy chandelier thing for my WIR. (it was $59) I put it up in my room now (to enjoy it) and LOVE looking at the little glass globs hanging down while I am in bed. My daughter has baggeds it for her new room, so have bought another but more mirrored for the WIR now..cheaper one, no hanging globs!! ha ha can post a pic if you are really that bored!! have a fun weekend and look forward to seeing the new room. you are going to love it and the best bit..it is all yours and doesnt stay with the house. dont forget a vase of flowers...or if no flowers, 3 green stems... or 5, always odd! red....so that brings in some colour. (and have red in a picture/ art too) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ or green Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ can you tell I am so excited for you!! thanks for letting me send you into a coma...
