Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 02, 2010 3:48 pm Hi Everyone Im looking for opinions on what you think about this; So I chose the painters I wanted to re-paint my home, anyway they started the job today. Obviously I had received my quote prior stating in the quote was the color choices of Neutral colors. After starting the painting they have informed my mother (whom is acting on my behalf as I am residing interstate) that the job will be an extra $500 due to there being 'different colors' he was unaware of. The colors chosen are as follows; Hog Bristle 1/2 , Hog Bristle 1/4 , Vivid White and Russian Toffee (feature walls) Anyway knowing there was an english barrier from the start I emailed him through the colors as well as which rooms will be painted in which.. I also left a copy of the color consultation form pointing out which colors for which room so there would be no mis-understandings at the home for when he commenced so that he could refer to it if he needed to. I emailed these colors through to him a week ago so WHY didnt he tell me then about the extra cost involved? I spoke with him on the phone lastnight and again WHY didnt he tell me then? What is everyones opinions on this? Any input very much appreciated. Re: Opinions PLEASE on a situation I have with the painters 2Nov 02, 2010 5:10 pm Sounds like he's trying to screw you over... Sorry, I don't mean it in a rude way or anything, so please don't think that. Have you paid him a deposit yet? Or signed anything? Re: Opinions PLEASE on a situation I have with the painters 4Nov 02, 2010 7:34 pm If that's the case then I would either be looking for another painter who will provide you with a written quote.. OR push on him that you gave him all the details in paper/email so the price should change from what said painter told you. He's not worth the pain in the a$$ Re: Opinions PLEASE on a situation I have with the painters 6Nov 02, 2010 7:51 pm Hi GTI I agree with flagstaffIV. Either get it in writing now before it goes any further OR just pay him for what he's done up until now and look around for another painter. It may be easier to cut your losses now than set yourself up with a "pain in the backside" situation later on. Seeing as you are living interstate at the moment, you need to ensure your dealings are as hassle-free as possible. It's also not fair on your mum that they may be putting the heavy on her requesting more money for the job. Sorry, don't mean to be a pessimist, it's just not worth the stress if it becomes an ongoing issue down the track. Good luck Julie-anne Re: Opinions PLEASE on a situation I have with the painters 7Nov 02, 2010 8:23 pm Ring the painter .. you already know his English isn't that great, maybe his literacy isn't any better, who knows? ..it could be a kid translating his emails. Keep your cool, I suggest you remove your mum from the equation (not fair on her ..imo(sorry)) and I'm sure things will work out for you. Cheers.. Re: Opinions PLEASE on a situation I have with the painters 8Nov 02, 2010 9:57 pm Playing devils advocate here, did the quote say "neutral colour" or "neutral colours" ? "Generally" unless you have specified you want to paint feature walls and use a number of different colours, the painters will base thier quote on painting the whole house in one or two colours. Depending on what the painter is charging you for the job, the $500 might be fairly reasonable (depending on how many feature walls you want). Granted its a PITA to hear about this right before they are about to start, but maybe the communication of what was expected (you) and what was being offered (them) wasn't clear to either party....... Re: Opinions PLEASE on a situation I have with the painters 9Nov 03, 2010 7:30 am I agree that there would normally be an extra cost to have more than one wall colour. X litres of paint will cost exactly the same, whether it's in one or five colours, but there may be a bit extra required due to the different colours. Plus there's the trouble of changing/cleaning rollers and brushes, so $500 might be a pretty normal mark-up. I know we paid a lot more through our builder to have two rooms painted a different colour to the rest of the house. The point is, if you've communicated all colours and details to the painter beforehand, he should have factored all of this into his quote. You might be able to apply to divert the sewer at your expense. In NSW you would contact a Water services co-ordinator and they would give you advice as to whether or not… 1 12949 6 7974 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 30573 |
