Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 01, 2010 8:01 am Righto, so I'm one of those men that struggle with colour schemes... Or at least have a lack of confidence in my ability to select colour schemes! I've got a block of land (5 acres) and will be building what I would call a modern "colonial/ranch/homestead" style house... The distinctive element being 6ft verandah's with split roof line all around...I'm in a rural environment, reasonably open within 200m of the house, but then the eucalypts and hills start! The grass is green all around, and I'll have native plants/shrubs closer to the house... First things first is to build the shed, so I can store the gear for the house... And I'm planning on building it to a similar construction... i.e weatherboard to match the house... Obviously colours are to match also... So in terms of colour schemes, I've driven around, and driven around, and driven around... But haven't found what I see as a homestead scheme. So many people have same colour roof & trim that its not funny! Nobody seems to use alternate colours for the gutter/fascia... I've found it so hard to figure out what peoples colours are on roofs as it seems different in all differnt light, angles!! I've got so many paint charts, and colorbond chips it's not funny! And maybe I'm over complicating it! I've come up with a couple of "schemes" and would like opinions or even better "photos" of something similar... 1 - Dune Roof, Jasper Gutter/Fascia, Dulux Ecru Weatherboard (2 Roller Doors colours to be Jasper????) 2 - Shale Grey Roof, Woodland Grey Gutter/Fascia, Walls TBA (2 Roller Doors in Woodland Grey) 3 - Windspray Roof, Woodland Grey Gutter/Fascia, Walls TBA (2 Roller Doors in Woodland Grey) 4 - Shale Grey Roof, Ironstone Gutter/Fascia, Walls TBA (Roller Doors in Ironstone) The Shed itself is 15m long (5 x 3m bays) which 2 of will be roller doors, which I think should be in the trim colour... The house will be something along the lines of the following.. http://www.kitome.com.au/Gallery-Wassons.shtml http://www.kitome.com.au/Gallery-Dimechs.shtml http://www.kitome.com.au/Gallery-SthCoast.shtml http://www.kitome.com.au/Gallery-Kavenagh.shtml Hope someone can assist on this one!!! Help... 3Nov 01, 2010 1:54 pm It's weatherboard, so the colour can always be fine tuned... My first option I like Ecru with the dune and jasper... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... We are having the same drama too at the moment. Would love to hear others opinions. We are going to be building on just over 2 acres and the shed will go up first and of course we need to decide on colours so the shed and house can live in harmony together, lol, so I hear your pain. It is so hard. I'm loving the Dune/Jasper colours but hubby is leaning more towards Dune/Woodland Grey but I just find it too green. Our house will have a saw tooth (scillion) roof. We had considered zinc for a while but now back onto colourbond. Our external will be a mixture of render and boards. If I can talk the hubby into the Jasper, I'm keen to find a 3rd colour to go with the Jasper and Dune. Surfmist seems to look ok with the samples but it is so light. Would love to see pics of people who have used Jasper and Dune together and if they are happy with their choice and other thoughts on that 3rd colour. Good luck chuth77, have you made any decisions since you posted this? Re: Exterior Colour Schemes - House and Shed!!! Help... 5Nov 21, 2010 6:03 pm Hi Chook, As yet I haven't had any luck with colours... The more I look the more confused I get... I think I've moved away from Dune after looking at a lot of houses... It really seems to me like a nothing... It doesn't have colour, it's just blah... if that makes sense... I've looked at so many roofs with so many trims, and can't find a dune mix that I like... My new thoughts are... 1.. Windspray roof, Woodland Grey gutters, surfmist fascia, woodland grey roller doors and a house/shed colour similar to paperbark... 2...Bushland roof, Woodland Grey gutters, surfmist fascia, paperbark roller doors and a house/shed colour similar to paperbark... Shale grey just seems so light... And I'm unfortunately restricted to "natural" colours due to council requirements, so surfmist roof is out of the question... I'd have no problems with a surfmist roof and choosing colours! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Exterior Colour Schemes - House and Shed!!! Help... 6Nov 22, 2010 3:39 pm Hi there, We had a similar problem with colour choices as every house we see have woodland grey roof and I don't like the green in it. So we chose DUNE roof and JASPER gutters and fascia. We are building on 16 acres and had the shed put up first. So the shed is all dune and the gutters are jasper. Will attach a photo to give you an idea of the combo together. We went to a display home and it had dune roof and jasper gutters and fascia and loved it. Had Austral nougat brick though and our builder doesn't use them so we have gone with PGH Torino, hoping it will look ok once done. Help... 7Nov 22, 2010 7:27 pm It's very tough making the choice... Every time I look at something new, it just confuses the issue! Different light, different angles, different days, they all look different! And I guess I'm also struggling with it because the house with be weatherboard, so this adds a very different texture to brick or straight tin shed! I'll get there eventually, and eventually post some photos! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Exterior Colour Schemes - House and Shed!!! Help... 8Nov 25, 2010 11:01 pm Hi rhoff, thanks for posting your pics. The Dune actually looks quite light in them. Dune and Jasper is by far my favourite colour combo, just need to work on the hubby. I'll show him your pics. For some reason, he doesn't want the shed walls to be a light colour, he likes a darker coloured shed, but doesn't like the look of sheds we've seen in Jasper. It's so hard, I would prefer not to have Woodland Grey and he doesn't want Jasper so we virtually need to look at a different scheme all together and then neither of us will be happy. Maybe colourbond will bring out another new colour soon, lol. Can I ask who you got your shed through? Re: Exterior Colour Schemes - House and Shed!!! Help... 9Nov 30, 2010 12:27 pm Hi Chook07 our shed was through a local shed place, but he just ordered it through RanBuild. The Dune has come out quite light in the photos but it just depends on the angle and also the light in the day. Maybe check out some real estate to see what other colour combos people have used for their sheds. Might mean you both get what you are happy with.............maybe anyway!!!!
