Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Oct 04, 2010 7:05 pm I love the look of mercury glass, but definitely DON'T love the price tag. I found this gorgeous number on Freedom's site and just love it to bits (might even have to stump up the $199 price to buy it ): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But I want some vases too, and won't be paying $250 for these. Luckily, I came across instructions for DIY faux mercury glass on several sites, like this one. Problem is, it calls for this "looking glass" spray paint product... I'm happy to pick up a few cheap vases from the $2 Shop to play with (or use jars to practice the technique on), but thought I'd ask first in case anyone's got any tips. This is the kind of thing I'm thinking of: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I actually have a few votive holders from the $2 Shop in faux mercury glass - wanted to pick up some more last week, but they've cleared a heap of their stock to make room for Christmas decorations. D'oh! Oh well, I'll grab some cheap vases and my silver spray paint and have a go anyway. Re: Faking it - mercury glass. Has anyone tried it? 3Oct 09, 2010 9:25 am I saw a silver tile paint from WK the other day. http://www.whiteknightpaints.com.au/bri ... tile-paint Re: Faking it - mercury glass. Has anyone tried it? 5Oct 11, 2010 11:02 am Porter's Paints have a silver, a couple of different golds and some other effect paints which could work well. I haven't used them yet but plan to paint some picture frames in the rose gold Re: Faking it - mercury glass. Has anyone tried it? 6Oct 13, 2010 12:56 pm Hi Kek, Just wondering how you are going with this? I spotted some Krylon silver spray paint in Bunnings (craft section) and also Spotlight yesterday. It wasn't the looking glass one, but metalic instead: http://www.toolup.com/krylon_1401_brigh ... paint.aspx Unsure how it would look, and at $15 a can it may be a costly mistake if it didn't turn out how you imagined... I'm looking for silver spray paint to paint 80 stars for the school disco I'm organising, and I know the looking glass one would be the perfect shine I would be looking for, but I might have to settle for the $9 Dulux stuff! Rustoleum, in titanium - haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it might be a duller silver. 2. White Knight, in chrome. Very shiny and bright, I suspect. I have some cheap hurricane candle holders, so I'll give them a try and see what happens. Maybe on the weekend.
