Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Sep 26, 2010 6:06 pm Hi there, I was wondering whether anyone in PERTH can recommend a good place to go for curtains (ie sheers and drapes) I live in Country WA and collected some quotes for curtains for some of the windows in my new house. I like to support local business but one of the quotes came in at close to $10,000 just for about half a dozen windows....and it wasn't even top of the range fabrics. As I'm sure you can understand I am trying to keep my options open and thought I might check out some places in Perth. The biggest problem is that I am only making one trip between now and when the house will be ready....I will only be in Perth for a few hours on ONE day and was hoping to drop into a few places with my house plans....on my way back to the airport. It would be a huge help if you recommend some places I could go (or alternatively even places to avoid). I am looking for place that will provide good service. I would probably have to make my colour choices in the store and then have a friend or family bring the curtains home to me (when they are ready) so I need to trust that I would be receiving a good product. I want the sheers and drapes to look lovely and be well-made but not cost an arm and a leg! Your recommendations would mean a lot as only have a few hours up my sleeve. Another thought I had was that......I recall a number of years ago now paying for new curtains in our home and then stumbling across a fabric shop in Perth (it may have been something like "spotlight" but I'm not sure) They were offering FREE curtain-making if you purchased the fabric in store. I found the EXACT fabric we had used and I was mortified because if I had known about this service it would have cost me a fraction of the price we paid to have them made locally. Are there any places like this in Perth still offering a similar service...and if so- do they do a good job? Thanks in advance Re: Quick question regarding curtains for PERTH people 2Sep 28, 2010 8:28 am Spotlight might be the go for you. They still do curtain, blind making and like you say, sometimes have very good specials on this service and their fabrics. Give them a call first, as the person doing the quotes etc can be on the road a fair bit, so they might give you their mobile number. Then you can rarrange to meet maybe in the store together with your plans. Good luck. Re: Quick question regarding curtains for PERTH people 3Sep 28, 2010 2:08 pm Have used All Style Blinds & Curtains in Myaree for Sheers before and now using for wooden blinds, small business. Very happy with service, quality and price. Also Curtain world (local WA business) are good too and good prices, they have a shop in Applecross and Malaga and also have reps that service regional areas. Check out there website http://www.curtainworld.net.au Good Luck. Re: Quick question regarding curtains for PERTH people 4Sep 29, 2010 10:47 am Thanks heaps! I will try out a few of those places and let you know how I go! Cheers! Re: Quick question regarding curtains for PERTH people 5Oct 30, 2010 9:23 am Not sure if you're still looking for curtains or not? I just went and ordered my curtains from Curtain Wonderland in Osborne Park. They have a huge range of pre-made curtains, blinds, timbers etc. http://www.curtainwonderland.com.au/ I just ordered custom made sheers and because the store has just opened they have 20% off. They had a variety of fabrics to choose from (mine was only $14.95/m). All up for custom triple pinch pleat sheers on a sliding door and two windows it came to under $400 which was the cheapest quote I received. I'm still waiting for my order to be made, so can't comment on the quality of the workmanship though. Hope that helps! Re: Quick question regarding curtains for PERTH people 6Oct 30, 2010 9:29 am Just re-read your message. In terms of a company that offers free curtain making if you buy their fabric - Textile Traders offer this. Make sure you ask to look at their range of 'free curtain making fabrics' though as this does not include all their fabrics. They do have a great selection though. There is a Textile Traders in Osborne Park (on Scarborough Beach Road) which 2 minutes up the road from the Curtain Wonderland place. Spotlight is about 5 minutes further up the road again. You could easily see all three places in a couple of hours. Re: Quick question regarding curtains for PERTH people 7Nov 17, 2010 2:23 pm Thanks for your response Xander. It sounds as though you got a really good deal- I'd love to pics of the finished items (even though I have decided to source mine locally) I have already made the day trip to Perth and gathered a few quotes while I was there. I didn't have time to 'shop around' while I was there.... I just ended up calling in to a few places. I ended up coming across a place where I was delighted to find that one of the fabrics I had picked out here in town was (apparently) 30% off at the Perth shop and another I liked that was a whopping 60% off, however when I got the quotes back I wasn't actually making much of saving compared with what was available locally. Identical fabrics-probably the same quality curtain tracks and apparently the 'fitting' costs removed from the Perth quote and the quotes here in town were still marginally cheaper! I can't understand how this quote from Perth came in slightly higher when apparently the fabrics were 30% and 60% off (???) When I factored in the fact that I would have to arrange for a family member to collect them and transport them here to Country WA (which probably would be possible now to their work commitments) PLUS the fact that we would have had to fit the tracking etc ourselves it would be crazy to have sourced them from Perth. I was quite shocked really- and had honestly expected to make quite a big savings (I would have been able to justify the inconvenience of having them transported here and fitting them ourselves IF we had been able to make a considerable savings but unfortunately that wasn't the case!!) I have no doubt that if I was closer to Perth and had the time to 'shop around' for quotes that I would have been able to save quite a bit of money but it just isn't an option a the moment so I will just support local business and save myself the trouble.
