Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Sep 18, 2010 11:57 am I'm painting a timber entry joinery door and have so far done a single coat of oil based multipurpose primer/sealer. The door has routing on it and I'm wanting the finish to be as shmick as possible. How watery are the oil based primers supposed to be? This one doesn't have a consistency anywhere near the thickness of acrylic. How many coats of primer should I be using before applying colour? As it's very thin, I can still see through the primer. Should I be using a brush for the finish coats or just brushing on the routed parts and rolling the flat? People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. Gloss.... i'd use a small foam roller to do the flat bits, even for the undercoat if just to save time.. be carefull to wipe the face clean as you brush each routered bit (even for the undercoat) or you will see the brush marks around the routers. Hope this helps. Rhys. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 11480 Hi, Have used the Dulux 1 step, oil base on my walls(white set), out of can it’s already a more thinner product than a final coat paint Also in water base Water or… 3 3782 Thanks mate, is there a standard off the shelf type breathable product I can apply DIY?
