Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Sep 13, 2010 12:23 pm hi just after a little advice...not sure what to put on sliding glass stacker doors? i have seen roman and roller blinds on them, but not sure they are very practical? what looks nice but is still practical? what is popular for stacker doors? all the display homes never have anything on their stackers. any feedback would be appreciated. thanks The Asquith (modified) Deposit:6/2010 Council:12/2010 Contract Signed:15/2/2011 Site Prep:17/3 Slab:11/5 Frame:23/5 Bricks:11/7 Roof:18/7 Gyprock:3/8 Kitchen:6/8 Painting:10/10 KEYS!!: 10/11/11 Re: Blinds/Curtains for Glass Stacker Door?? 2Sep 13, 2010 8:58 pm My personal choice was to leave them without any. In previous places I have lived I never closed them anyway (in the living/dining areas), so figured this time around why bother and saved myself some money in the process... Re: Blinds/Curtains for Glass Stacker Door?? 3Sep 13, 2010 9:39 pm Depending what your climate's like and which way the windows face, some insulation in the form of blinds may be essential. Romans or rollers work well, but it might depend on where your doors are and which way they open. Do you have a photo or floorplan? Re: Blinds/Curtains for Glass Stacker Door?? 4Sep 13, 2010 9:49 pm We don't have any sliding stackers, but we have 2 3m wide bi-part sliding doors. We have opted for curtains on them due to the fact that the dogs/DS go in and out and I didn't want to be putting a blind up and down a million times. We have a bi-fold door around the same width, and that will be having roman blinds like the rest of our windows due to the fact that it won't be used as a pedestrian door.... only opened when we entertain. Think about how often you go in and out of the door, how you'll use it and that may help you decide. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Blinds/Curtains for Glass Stacker Door?? 5Sep 13, 2010 9:51 pm Panel Glides are like wide verticals , but they look good....we have also considered roller blinds ( with a remote cos alfresco is cornerless) or luminettes from Luxaflex look very classy.... Re: Blinds/Curtains for Glass Stacker Door?? 6Sep 14, 2010 7:12 am I didn't have time last night to finish my reply.... We have two sets of bifold doors at right angles to each other (one three-leaf and one four-leaf) and will be putting Romans on them. In our case, both sets of doors open onto our covered alfresco area, and the blinds will be open all day for at least half of the year. In summer when the morning sun hits one of them, I expect to have the blinds closed for a few hours each day to keep the heat out - we can use the other doors to go in and out if we need to anyway. My plan is to split the blind on the wider set of doors, partly because I don't think they make them that wide, but also so that we can open and close the one over the door leaf easily if we do need to be going in and out. I may even add a light-filtering roller underneath, not sure yet. Most importantly, I need to keep the heat IN during winter. We're losing a lot of heat overnight through the large expanse of glass and I'm sure it's pushing out heating bill way, way up. If your door opens from one end, splitting your blind might be practical. If it opens in the centre, maybe not. Oh -a nd if you do go for Romans, make sure you have them mounted above the door, so that when they're open, the bottom of the blind is only a few mm below the top of the door frame. That way tall people don't whack their head on them as they go through the door. Re: Blinds/Curtains for Glass Stacker Door?? 7Sep 14, 2010 8:21 am I have a double curtain over my stacker door - blockout at the back, sheer at the front. This pic is of a window - but it's the same thing over double stacker doors http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee276/amanda_simple_savings/IMG_6610_1.jpg We don't have a private back yard (people can see over our pool fence) - so we keep the sheer over during the day so we get light but still have privacy. We like the sheer at the front because at night, when the whole 3m expanse is shut, you get a much softer look than the heavy blockout curtain fabric. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Blinds/Curtains for Glass Stacker Door?? 8Sep 19, 2010 9:26 am I have a 3 panel stacker door with 2 fixed windows either side. It also faces west and in Summer I desperately need something to stop the harsh afternoon sun coming in (despite having a 4 metre eave in the form of an alfresco!). The huge wall of glass also completely sucks the warm air out in winter and I find I have to sit under a blanket on the couch even though the rest of the house is warm and comfy. I originally wanted to have a stacker plantation installed, but because of the design of the 2 windows next to it, and the fact that the plantations would 'stick out' into the room a little, it wasn't going to be practical. I am going to have 3 romans installed on the 3 panels, but set them up higher above the doors so there is not much 'overhang' below the door frame and onto the glass (as Kek mentions!). I have plantations on the 2 fixed windows. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
