Any new Facades out there?
Beach house in Ocean Grove

Hi There
Wondering if anyone wants to help me with my facade. We are building a beach style house and I have no idea what to choose for roof colours , etc. I had to choose the windows yesterday in a mad rush and just went for white frames. I want to keep the house mostly white but I would like a bit of a contrast for roof , etc ?? Ideas welcome .

Hi Caminbear.... Woodland grey roof always looks nice with white and timber.
Hi all, are renovators welcome in this thread?

We have a 70s double story cream brick home. Currently it has a red tile roof and black gutters/fascia. It also has black external doors and black garage doors. We wouldn't have thought much about repainting the roof just yet but we are having a timber deck built out the back with an insulated flyover roof and will need to choose a Colorbond colour for this roof. I thought we might as well give some thought to the house roof too and eventually paint that. I doubt we will ever render the house. Too costly.

Going by our brick colour I think a darker roof would suit? I do like greys.

Also we will be changing a window into a sliding door so will need to pick an aluminium slider which then gives us the chance to decide on what colour to do all our window frames (we may get them repainted one day). Currently they are raw silver and we are thinking of sticking with silver (but powder coated). I tossed up between black and white. I quite like the idea of the black but moreso from the outside and not from the inside.

It's all so hard when renovating! We need to pick some of these things now which in turn affects other parts of the house which we're not ready to touch yet due to $$$!

Front of house
The front balcony will eventually be decked in Merbau and the balustrade will be a timber handrail with black vertical posts (the new deck out the back will have this). You can't really see the roof from the street as you drive up.

Back of house
Ignore the green roof - that will be torn down soon. The new deck will come off the first floor in it's place and a flyover roof will go over the house roof. Roofs are visible from backyard (as you can see).

Basic drawing of new deck.

Do you think we could choose a lighter Colorbond colour for the new flyover roof? And do a darker colour on the house roof? Or should both be the same? I was thinking Monument but now maybe Woodland Grey?

Help!
In our area a lot of the flat land is flood prone or near the beach and us normal mortals can't afford it. Paying extra for cut, fill and drop edge beams can be a bonus in some cases as it means you don't walk out the front door and just look at the houses and cars of all your neighbours. This is our facade and the permanent view that comes with it. The weather comes straight up the valley from the south and sometimes the clouds and fog are below the top of the escarpment giving it that mysterious look.
Hi All

Hoping for some help with our facade colours. We are restricted by Heritage and therefore are stuck with fairly safe colours. We were hoping to go with a combination of grey and white but what grey and white is the ??????. At the moment the colours we are certain on are:
Surfmist Roof, gutters, fascia and garage door (wild I know - hold me back
)
The greys we are tossing up with are all Dulux Colours - we are not allowed to go too dark
Favoured, Pommier or Tin Cat with Lexicon Half or White on White for the trim.

Below is our elevation and also a house we like the look of. If anybody has any suggestions or even something completely different please feel free. All opinions are most welcome.

Sorry Charnley just logged in for a look, yes i know its been a while. You prob have it sorted by now though.... how is it going?
Hi Nathan

No still have completely no idea. Because we are going so light on the roof we dont want to go too light with the render as I dont want it too look washed out but it is hard to pick a grey as there are so many different shades ie blue, green , mauve, brown. Any suggestions would be great but will also look to get some sample pots and paint big swatches so i can take them outside and see what they look like in the sunlight. If cant even get the outside sorted boy am I in trouble as I have'nt even started on the inside

wow really like the brick and the colour thats what i was thinking about good to see it in real life what colour scheme did you do inside with the charcoal windows
Thanks for the bump, hadn't seen this.

We have used Solver 'Raw Paper' Full strength on the walls and 1 1/2 on the skirting and architraves. It is white! We have vic ash timber floors and also neutral / brown tiling. Here are a few pics

Wow! Those photos are 3 years old now! There are plenty more on my thread but I haven't updated it in awhile. Hope this helps.
Great thread! I haven't even selected a builder yet. It will be good to get some facade colour ideas.

Has anyone used Sweet Home 3D to mock-up their own facade images? (although it would be time-consuming)

You can get an idea of what can be done in this great software here: http://www.sweethome3d.com/gallery.jsp

I've been using it to experiment with different room sizes and furniture fit, however may try using it for colour schemes and landscape ideas.

Here is a draw up of mine. Definitely want opinions as I'm feeling so uncertain.

Hi turtleschell,

Can you let us know the colours of the house?

Roof: Hacienda MochaChoc
Walls:Solver Electra
Window frames: Surfmist
Garage Door: Surfmist
Portico: Solver Holmes
Front Door: Merbau Clear Varnish
Fascia and Gutter: Surfmist

Colours are personal however your colour scheme looks rather pinkish.
The wall colour does have a slight pink tinge, thought it would be best to match the portico.

Cheers
Hi turtleschell,
Consider placing Surfmist on the majority of the house with a medium colour on the portico uprights. This will guarantee you a clean and crisp look and should you want to change your colour scheme you have to change the portico uprights only.
I hope you have a tile sample available as you have to get the toning of the portico colour right. The colour of the roof tile on the Monier website is difficult to see.
Have you been on the solver website yet? You can see your exterior colour selection on a sample house; not ideal however better than nothing. Try it with the Surfmist to see the difference.
Cheers
