Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 May 28, 2010 1:14 am Hi All, Am about to sign up with a builder, but need to lock down my elevation options first. Just wondering if I could put my predicament out to the forum and hear what people think.... We are looking at building McCracken 'Cantebury' design with face as shown in the link: http://www.mccrackenhomes.com.au/canterbury.html We like the look of the house, but dont want yellow brick. Our Preference is PGH 'Oyster' (http://www.pghbricks.com.au/Bricks/Defa ... ItemId=152) with either Colourbond 'Monument' or 'woodland grey' for roof. The portico would be rendered in a darker colour to constrast the brick, probably aligned with whatever we choose the panel lift door to be. My concern, is that if I go for the darker brick and roof, the pinstripe that goes around the windows wont match the style of the elevation, as I presume the pinstripe is for more of a classical look whereas the brick and roof combination is more akin to a modern style (which would demand less detail ?) Do you think I should retain the pinstripe, or remove it ? If I remove the stripe, should it be replaced with something else ? I am concerned that the area above the 'arch' (for want of a better term, dont know what to call it - the part above the window on the right hand side: http://www.mccrackenhomes.com.au/canterbury.html) would be a bit too plain / empty. Any ideas of how to possibly finish it off ? I saw this elevation on another builders site, & it seemed to fill the gap ok: http://www.fairmonthomes.com.au/_webapp_7121/Sanur I know this stuff is personal choice, I was just wondering what peoples opinion were... ps - apologies in advance for not uploading images, the 'board attachment quota has been reached' .....apparently. regards, Captain_M Why are priates scary ? Because they yaargh.. Re: Elevation Options 2May 28, 2010 10:34 am Perhaps if you remove the stripe, you could also remove the bricks above the window? You could use lightweigh cladding (infill) instead as a feature. You could dress it up with a little frettwork (timber lattice). You could make the window a bay window so it sticks out and draws attention away from the bricks. To post photos you need to use a photo hosting site like Flickr / Photobucket. You load the images there and then post the image code in your forum message - then the photos will appear. Some things are worth waiting for. I ran into trouble finding a lock that would fit my particular door, like your situation with your pivot door. I wanted a safe lock that couldn't be messed with easily. 4 25705 Standard uninsulated double brick has an R value of around 0.7.
