Browse Forums Finishing Touch Re: What primer to use 2May 19, 2010 8:05 pm Hi Qiao Exterior walls ? For a better finish we always use an acrylic sealer undercoat as the 1st coat over render or brickwork. You have not mentioned what type of wall though. Many self priming topcoats applied in 2 coats will be ok too, but an acrylic undercoat will give a better looking finish Re: What primer to use 4May 20, 2010 3:27 pm For set plaster you will need to use an oil-based sealer binder, not acrylic. It's smelly and awful but unfortunately that's what we have to put up with in WA Acrylic undercoat can be used for plasterboard (i.e. ceilings and framed homes) but not set plaster. Re: What primer to use 5May 20, 2010 8:21 pm Hi Quio Ok interior walls no problem. Again the acrylic sealer undercoat is the way to go as the 1st coat. Just be carefull the walls have been sanded properly and that all the residue has been removed from the walls prior to you applying the paint. You can use a damp roller sleeve in your hand to catch all the powdery residue from the sanding or broom it off well. Cheers.....Scott Re: What primer to use 6May 24, 2010 6:08 pm Thanks Scott and Vundaful. I've been to bunnings and that was what they told me as well. Got to use the stinky oil-based sealer for walls and acrylic for ceiling. Is there any difference between the brands. Bunning only stock 2 brands and being tight on budget, are there any other brands out there that does exactly the same as Dulux and nippon? Re: What primer to use 7May 24, 2010 9:48 pm Not sure, we went with Dulux and were praised by the staff if that means anything to you That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17857 If what you describe is correct then the brick wall has been dry lined with villa board.
