Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Aug 13, 2007 4:50 pm Hi colour savvy people (Michelle guru of selections, I hope you get to read this!),
I am having the "which white" colour crisis which seems to happen to all of us at some stage. I am trying to select the "white" to use for our skirtings, window frames and internal doors. The selections that we have made are: - walls throughout are Dulux Hogs Bristle 1/2 strength - kitchen, bathroom and linen cupboards are 2pack finish in Antique White USA - Kitchen and downstairs bathroom benchtops are caeserstone in raw silk - travertine marble flooring in the kitchen/casual meals and family (all one room) and downstairs bathroom - jarrah through the entrance hall and formal lounge and dining - bathrooms upstairs have caeserstone benchtops in Mink with similar colour floor tile. White wall tiles. - carpet upstairs is mid-dark grey/brown Originally I was thinking of having Antique White USA skirtings, window frames and internal doors but having painted a test patch over the weekend it is very white compared to the Hogs Bristle 1/2 strength. The other colour we are considering for the skirtings etc is Hogs Bristle 1/4 strength but we are worried this is not different enough. Do you think Antique White USA or Hogs Bristle 1/4 strength would look ok? Does anyone have any suggestions about a white which would better suit? (If it helps I've been looking at the Dulux Whites brochure). Thanks in advance Pearl Re: Help - which white? 2Aug 15, 2007 1:32 pm Dear Pearl,
I would immediately say 1/4 strength hog bristle. From what i have read, dont introduce too many different shades of white. We went full, half, quarter strengths for our house and everything just blends beautifully. But then again I am also having a white crisis myself ![]() Pearl, your colours sound absolutely dreamy ![]() Mrs B Re: Help - which white? 3Aug 15, 2007 7:13 pm Thanks MrsB.
I went back and looked at the colour swatches I painted on the wall again and we are going to go with the Hogsbristle 1/4 strength. I've seen it in different light now and I think it will look good. I have to admit, we did in part "borrow" the colour scheme from a display home we saw. I saw the colours and fell in love with them so have worked with them as a base. Unfortunately the house isn't finished yet and I'm not organised enough with my colour swatches to post pics. When the house is finished, I'll see if I can work out how to post some pictures. Hopefully we are only another 4 or so weeks away from moving in (my DH tells me 2 weeks but I tell him he's dreaming!). I look at what others like Ladyice and Mek are doing and love their bolder colour schemes. Sometimes wonder if we've been too safe but then I go back to the colours we've chosen and they suit our house (we're renovating a 2 storey Georgian) and I can imagine myself living with them. I can't wait to see it finished and see if it matches the images I have in my head!
