Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Feb 09, 2010 2:31 pm Hi guys, It’s been a while since our last post....as you can tell, we’ve been quite busy! (Our progress thread: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16253 ) We’re now closing in on lock up and would love your opinions on what we should do with our entry portico. Our architect has designed it so that the entire thing is stackstone which I think is OVERKILL! (as you can see from our earlier floor plans/elevations) My wife has taken the liberty to exercise her photoshop skills and roughly simulate some alternative portico options: either render only or render & stackstone. Which ones do you guys prefer???? If you were looking at a house, which one would you go for? Would love your input guys How it looks now, without stackstone or render http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d160/lugzlebo/portico_simulation_original.jpg One pole stackstone, the rest render http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d160/lugzlebo/portico_simulation_one-stackstone.jpg[IMG] All stackstone http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d160/lugzlebo/portico_simulation_allstackstone.jpg Render all the way http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d160/lugzlebo/portico_simulation_all-render.jpg We need to make a decision this week, your opinion would really help! Thanks, Poetic_slave & Lamoos25 Re: Stackstone or render...need your opinion on our portico pls 2Feb 09, 2010 2:37 pm hi i like the all render. I am a teeny weeny bit over the stackstone, though it can look good...from those pics though I think you would need to go either one or the other - the one pole being stackstone personally doesn't do it for me ...but maybe that's just cause the stackstone isn't going all the way to the top? not sure... but my vote is for all render; i like that colour too. Re: Stackstone or render...need your opinion on our portico pls 3Feb 09, 2010 2:55 pm Stackstone is probably overkill, I'd suggest either the whole render option or render+stackstone feature. The problem with the stackstone feature is that it doesn't 'fit' in well, it looks a little added on just for the sake of adding on. Plus, render will never look dated thanks to a new coat of paint Stackstone might start looking "so noughties" after a few years. Re: Stackstone or render...need your opinion on our portico pls 5Feb 09, 2010 3:35 pm Render. If you had a single column as a design feature, it might lend itself to render, but your portico needs to be all of one thing, as Donuts said. Stackstone over the whole thing would be very heavy-looking, so render wins for me. As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words, so here's a pic of a house that's having an each-way bet: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It looks like they forgot to finish it. This one has a feature column on just one side, and doesn't end up looking half-done: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Stackstone or render...need your opinion on our portico pls 6Feb 09, 2010 7:22 pm I'm with the others, definitely render 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' It looks a lot nicer and you can always paint it a different colour in years to come if you feel like a change Keep the stack stone idea for a feature in the back garden Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Stackstone or render...need your opinion on our portico pls 8Feb 09, 2010 8:20 pm I agree with the others. Definitely render only. Re: Stackstone or render...need your opinion on our portico pls 9Feb 12, 2010 9:25 am Thanks all, based on your recommendations we've decided to go with the render using Colourbond Woodland Grey for the portico and Solvers Lundy Grey for our main render up top. You guys are great. P_S Does anybody who I can contact to adjust the portico on the ground to relevel the portico and roof? 1 832 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6141 these look like missing batts. Go up and take a look.
