Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Dec 04, 2009 4:42 pm Hello there, We have an old 70's home and we're new to the whole renovation thing. A while back we started in one room and sanded back the cornices to remove some of the old, rough, chalky paint and repainted them, along with the ceiling which we also sanded lightly to freshen a bit pre painting. Both done with 80 grit. It's been about a year now and the paint on some of the cornice has cracked. I'm wondering what may have caused this as we've just stripped down our living room and are about to start with cornices. I don't want to make the same mistake. We've only used waterbased Dulux paints thus far. Also, we've repaired some major damage in cornice in that main room with plaster of paris. Should I paint / prep that with something like and oil based sealer before repainting with the dulux water based? Thanks in advance. - L Re: Paint cracking on cornices 4Dec 06, 2009 10:56 am Is it where tww cornices join? If so that's just the movement in the house 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7165 Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5727 |
