Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jul 13, 2007 4:56 pm What colour are your ceilings (or going to be)?
Are the majority white? Is a light shade of the wall colour popular? What effect does a colour other than white have on the room? We have chosen Bristol Bedouin Beige (creamy champagne). Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: What colour are your ceilings? 3Jul 13, 2007 6:16 pm Good question Ray,
My roof is going to be the same colours as my walls (Bristol Olivine) as I am having square set instead of cornice.. If I had cornice again I would have flat white. Re: What colour are your ceilings? 4Jul 13, 2007 6:17 pm My home theatre ceiling was flat black.
Other rooms flat white. Re: What colour are your ceilings? 5Jul 13, 2007 6:37 pm We have ceilings throughout our home that are about 3m high. We have standard off-white on most rooms, with fancy cornices.
In our loungeroom, we have a very pale green (Dulux water-garden) on the ceiling to give a lovely accent to the other colours in the room. It is amazing how that very faint tint makes the ceiling feel lower than the white ceilings! It literally feels as though it is a foot lower than the rest of the house. The other room we have another colour is our main bedroom. Our walls in that room are in Dulux 'serenity'. Again fancy cornices that are off-white with a central flute painted Dulux 'passion' (a plum like colour). We had the painters do the ceiling in the serenity at half strength. Again it gives the illusion of the ceiling feeling lower. Ash. Re: What colour are your ceilings? 10Jul 13, 2007 9:05 pm Hey Ray,
we chose bedouin beige for the woodwork(skirtings and doors) , ceiling is flat white and walls brie( a shade lighter than bedouin beige. What colour have you chosen for the skirtings? I was wondering if I could go a shade or 2 darker... Re: What colour are your ceilings? 11Jul 16, 2007 3:13 pm Our walls and woodwork are Bristol Sandlight (walls matt, wood gloss).
After some of the comments above I'm hoping that it doesn't look to dark and claustrophobic, but we have higher ceilings (2550mm), and really - who looks at the roof? But it may affect lighting. When we went into the Bristol shop (checking out the colours prior to our selections) the lady in the shop suggested Brie because she had just painted her whole house in it (it looked white to me!). We also got a free colour consult in the shop (by a colour expert) and that lady said that the colours I suggested would work well (at that stage I liked Taubmans Teague and Cafe)... so we matched them as close as possible to the Bristol colours. Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: What colour are your ceilings? 12Jul 16, 2007 5:49 pm All my walls, cornice, skirts, architraves, doors and ceiling are Dulux “Winnow”.
Semi gloss on the ceilings in all the bedrooms and flat in the main living areas, and that’s only because I had a blank moment and listened to the builders and painter. I personally prefer semi gloss throughout. Light colours bounce light, with semi gloss, it bounces more! I should have listened to my instincts and stuck with semi on the ceilings throughout. When using a light colour, which Winnow is, it’s great to do the one colour throughout, walls and ceiling. The painter does not change colour while painting, it is cheaper this way and you get a cleaner flow of paintwork from one surface to the other. When using slightly stronger colours on your walls, white is the best option. I think it looks great Re: What colour are your ceilings? 14Jul 25, 2007 10:41 am Don't use the pure white for your ceilings.
It will show very clear all imperfections as the paint start ageing – any greasy colours, dust, etc. You will need to repaint your ceioings it much sooner. Instead use very light greyish off-white tones. You wouldn’t notice the colour, when paint is applied to the ceilings, but it will be more practical. It will hide all imperfections, will be easier to cover existing stains and your ceiling will look fresh for much longer. If you don’t want to go into trouble of picking a colour – just add a little bit of a grey tint and a group or two of ochre tint into to your white paint. Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
