My question is - with a semi-gloss which would have the higher sheen level? Does the preparation/undercoats & number of them underneath affect the gloss level? Appreciate any thoughts. Re: Paint gloss level 3Aug 27, 2009 9:44 pm Matt /Low Sheen/Semi Gloss (satin)/Full Gloss There the common Sheen levels ,different paint manufacturers in gneneral use the same sheen "names" or references however the sheen level may slightly be different. Yes undercoats effect the level of the sheen. Matt & Low sheen are common for walls. Semi & Full gloss common on woodwork/doors. There is also Flat which is no sheen at all or very little , commonly used for ceilings but also available for walls.
