Browse Forums Finishing Touch Re: Are these curtains tacky? 21Aug 16, 2009 1:25 pm Mrs B I had that exact page of the Potterybarn website open as I wrote my last post! I quite liked those two you put up too ... I will have to check the measurements of those ones... thank you!!!! Hels off to look at mm's ones now thanks! I don't really need the blockout as I have the roller shutters, but the crystals sound nice! Re: Are these curtains tacky? 22Aug 16, 2009 2:51 pm ok the Potterybarn measurements are all in inches The window is 150cm wide (plus architraves) ... I think it should be ok if what they are talking about here is for a single panel, and I have to buy two panels ... does that sound right? I am so bad at reading measurements for curtains .... can anyone help me pleeeease? Quote: General Product Information POLE-POCKET PANELS DIMENSIONS: 44" x 63" (112cm x 160cm) 44" x 84" (112cm x 213cm) 44" x 96" (112cm x 244cm) Measurements are inclusive of the pole pocket (pole-pocket drapes are measured from the top of the pocket to the bottom of the hem). So I think I have to get 2 x the middle ones (213cm long). Or should I say, I have to ask Mrs B nicely to get them for me, and then ONLY if it's not too much trouble and she doesn't have to go through the whole store looking for them!!!!! ..... Re: Are these curtains tacky? 23Aug 16, 2009 7:31 pm I wanna go shopping in Potterybarn!! My MIL sends me the catalogues....we're not planning another trip over there yet though till next year or the year after. I'm sure I could fill a shipping container with stuff from there..and Costco...and a few others.. I think the reason I don't like them is yes the net look. I prefer light cotton sheers if I"m using them and can find them. Have you looked in ikea? they have some nice curtains. ...but that's just me. If it's what you like then why not? Your daughter will love them I'm sure... Re: Are these curtains tacky? 24Aug 16, 2009 7:48 pm thanks Dragonfly, yes I am liking them less now too, due to the nettiness... and liking the butterfly potterybarn ones better and better I must say ......... I have tried Ikea but their sizes are too small for my windows. A shame because they do have some nice eyelet sheers which I really like. Speaking of costco ... the Melbourne one opens tomorrow Ya'll in Melbourne have got to go and look for us, I'm dying to know if it's anything like the US ones. MIL sends us huge bottles of gummy bear vitamins and omega 3's for the kids that she only pays $10 for. And I remember the massive pumpkin pies at thanksgiving. I guess it they won't have many of the traditional american foods, the aus versions? ...I wonder if they have a website...off to look... Re: Are these curtains tacky? 26Aug 16, 2009 8:04 pm There is a website (I bought my membership online on it today!) but it doesn't have much in the way of what products there'll be. There's a Facebook group on it though, which was started by a Costco employee (possibly sales rep?). On the discussion board on there he has shared some info on some of the products they'll have. So excited ... I'm not going to go tomorrow because I think it'll be too busy but I'll be there soon and will report back to H1 afterwards! Re: Are these curtains tacky? 27Aug 16, 2009 8:11 pm oooohhhh I'm so envious! It's going to be an eternity before we end up with one anywhere near where I am. I was thinking though, since you can buy flats of goods...bulk, cheaper and more convenient because it means less shopping but do you have the storage? I think I'd have to set up shelving in the garage or something. Re: Are these curtains tacky? 28Aug 16, 2009 8:29 pm No, I don't think I'd go for the bulk buys. The shop is not far from where we live anyway so I am lucky enough to be able to go often, so they can store it for me. I have no idea what I'll buy yet, just interested to go and have a look what's there! I'm sure in 14,400 sqm of goods I'll find something. Re: Are these curtains tacky? 29Aug 16, 2009 8:30 pm Donuts, did you ask your DD if she liked the curtains? Re: Are these curtains tacky?..morphed into Costco discussion p2 31Aug 16, 2009 8:52 pm Guess it's totally YOUR call on the curtains then... I think they are sweet. Sometimes they ar not so nice in the real deal as they are in the pictures though. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Are these curtains tacky?..morphed into Costco discussion p2 32Aug 16, 2009 9:37 pm I agree also donuts - too netty, though cute Do they have to be totally sheer? But I agree that I think they look to netty. You need something a little more sheer. My daughters grandmother decorated a room just for her to stay in when she came to visit. She hung a sheer material over the bed as a canopy and then attached butterflies to it. It looks very cute and girly. You could do the same with the curtains. http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee153/netadelle/IMG_0665.jpg Re: Are these curtains tacky?..morphed into Costco discussion p2 34Aug 17, 2009 8:26 am OMG Southies I just spent half an hour drooolling over that site!!! It's got some gorgeous stuff hasn't it? Thanks for the link I will have to bookmark it. And no, they don't have to be absolutely sheer. I think I would just prefer no blockout. thanks netadelle the butterflies are a cute idea, I might do something like that for the mosquito net. Re: Are these curtains tacky?..morphed into Costco discussion p2 35Aug 17, 2009 3:07 pm Just caught up on this thread Honestly I don't like the first ones you put up sorry! I do love the ones Mrs B put up and I really like the ones Southies put up too! Hopefully you can get some like either of those Do you have a pic of DD's room? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Are these curtains tacky?..morphed into Costco discussion p2 36Aug 17, 2009 6:07 pm no I don't have a pic bel... it's really nothing special yet so I'm a bit embarrassed to but maybe I should put one up to give ppl a better idea of where they're going. Re: Are these curtains tacky?..morphed into Costco discussion p2 37Aug 18, 2009 1:23 am Hi Donuts, I really really like the Potterybarn one. At the same time, I think the pic of the sheer curtains posted by southies is also great! I think the net curtains are so not in the picture now that you've seen some good alternatives which are closer to your original idea! Let me know if you still want my curtains though...(they would fit your daughter's window even the one that I had trimmed along the length) - as an afterthought, since your window is only 150cm wide, you may end up having to cut both panels down to size (width wise).....(mine were to fit a wide window of approximately 220 m almost). The bed when she's big enough for one will go in the same spot as the cot, and I have a white mosquito net to go over it. The playpen and chair are also not permanent features! The wall next to the door is pretty bare; I am thinking of getting some type of storage unit, either just a shelf on the wall or an Expedit type bookcase from Ikea, for there. Any other ideas welcome!?
