Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Aug 05, 2009 9:40 am Hi everyone, I'm going to be asked to pick my bricks and roof tile very soon and I'm struggling with this decision! I can't decided whether to go a lighter brick with darker tile or a darker brick with a lighter tile. I must admit I haven't seen many light tiled roofs. If you have either of these could you please post some pics? Especially the lighter tiled one. I'm thinking of a creamish brick like Selkirks victoria gold or coastal sand with the Barramundi roof or sambuca or the Boral mocca....but then I have no idea what tile to put with it How do I chose? I had my heart set on a lighter colourbond roof, but that has been scrapped now because it was blowing out my budget so I've not reverted back to roof tiles. We were given a list of completed homes in our area by Austral Bricks & then spent the best part of a day (5 hours) driving around looking at them. We found that the same brick certainly looks different depending on the colour of the windows, facia, roof & garage door. Right from the start we always thought we would choose darker colours & seeing the many other combinations reinforced this. I suggest you get a list from your chosen brick company & do the same thing. Gary. 25 years in the planning. It has to be compensated by more insulation and/or AC. Hope it doesn't look bad around the back of the house being light on light - if we do not like the look we will probably do a whole house render. Re: Need help - dark brick/light roof or light brick/dark roof?? 6Aug 06, 2009 8:50 pm Yes this is something I have been worrying about. Wouldn't having the lighter bricks work in my favour if I had the darker roof?? Surely it would be better than having a dark brick and dark tile? I had my heart set on a light colourbond roof just for this reason, but this isn't going to happen anymore. I haven't seen a light tiled roof that I liked so far, but if someone has a pic of their light tiled roof I would love to see it. But I'm not having any render at the front of my house - it doesn't come standard and I can't afford it Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Need help - dark brick/light roof or light brick/dark roof?? 9Aug 06, 2009 10:06 pm Thanks Buzz, I'll go hunting for it now Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Need help - dark brick/light roof or light brick/dark roof?? 10Aug 07, 2009 9:56 pm Walnut tile with Austral Brighton Brick for a look at a lighter brick and rooftile. It might be a big concern in warmer parts, but I wouldn't let that influence your decision, given where you're building. Our roof is dark grey and the house stays nice and cool in summer thanks to insulation and evap cooling - which I'd never be without, regardless of roof colour.... Gary's suggestion of getting a list from the brick manufacturer is a good one - especially if you're not confident about your own ability to choose colours from samples.
