Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jul 06, 2009 11:02 am I am painting my lounge room in china white & I am thinking of using the same paint for the ceiling. I tried a section of the ceiling & It looks a bit dark. Not sure whether it's just looking that way as it's just reflecting against the original white ceiling paint. The dulux paint centre told me to use same colour on the ceiling as well. I am using dulux 101 low sheen. Has anyone done a ceiling in this colour. Re: dulux china white 3Jul 06, 2009 6:24 pm Chine white is a great colour, and light enough to use on the ceilings. If you tried the colour over a pure white ceiling then yes it will look dark, bit once it’s all painted up you won’t see that much difference. I have put all the one colour through my house, try to close your eyes while the ceiling is being done, it will be fine. As we are going to have a standard height of 2.40 mtr I am happy with Coral's standard ceiling White. The whiter the higher the space will look, I think. For the wall we choose Whisper White and for the woodwork and Internal doors China White. Again I don't want to much a difference in colour between the woodwork and the wall because that might restrict the height of the rooms. I prefer the full Lexicon for the wall and then the China for the woodwork but it might be to light in a house with so many windows as ours. Good Luck ! Re: dulux china white 5Jul 06, 2009 9:15 pm thanks michelle & Annelies, As I had only painted a small corner of the ceiling I had thought it was just seeing all the rest white that made it look dark. The cornice is fully painted in the same corner & that doesn't look dark at all so michelle I think you are right it's only looking at the unpainted white that makes it look dark. Tonight I repainted the corner section of the ceiling in white again & really it's going to be hard to paint & you can't see any difference in the old white paint & the new white. So it's either paint the ceiling in china white or leave the ceiling alone & just paint the walls. The ceiling paint is 8yrs old now & to leave for another 5-7yr is a bit of a worry. Another thing to think about is - The other main rooms off the lounge room are painted with izzy san which is soft pascal green with stowe white (antique white) doors & woodwork. I started this colour in my kitchen & loved it so much I continued through the hallway .The ceiling in these areas are white . So I was a bit concerned about white ceilings on both sides & all one colour in the centre. My ceilings are standard height but dulux told me the one colour tends to make the room look bigger, of course this is with light colours. Re: dulux china white 6Jul 07, 2009 2:31 pm I would be more inclined to keep all your ceilings the one colour throughout. Unless your home is of an original Federation style.
