Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 May 19, 2009 10:22 am Hi Help please. We are in process of a renovation. Our walls are currently rendered but they will need to patched where we have added/removed windows walls etc. The builders renderer came and said if we patch with render we will see the difference between the old and new and it won't look good. The biggest wall needs to be gyprocked as there is a steel beam in place that if rendered will crack. Our builder is gyprocking this very large wall at their cost. The remaining 3 walls in the large space we have opened are going to have patched rendered walls. Is it cheaper to patch the rendered area or is gyprocking cheaper. This is our first reno and we are not handy people and have no idea. I prefer rendered walls to gyprock but would prefer my walls to look nice and clean not *******. My other concern if we gyprock is hanging heavy paintings/pictures, plasma. Do you need to drill through the gyprock and into the render? Is gyprock stuck on to the wall or is it attached to battens nailed into the rendered wall? Any advice or comments welcome. Sharon Re: Render or Gyprock walls 2May 23, 2009 3:56 am Hi Sharon, i'm o/bing a large b/brick house ATM, have o/b'ed a few over last 40 years, & this time we have decided to go gyprock onto brick. if the reno has new brick walls, it is dead easy & very good - provided walls r flat, gyprock is "stuck" straight onto the brick work with special adhesive & is very strong when dried. only areas we got rendered were wet areas 2 X bathrooms & laundry & a section of external feature wall. re cost - by getting ceiling & walls done in one go it was very little difference in price per sq m. the beauty of gyprock is that it will not show up little hairline cracks that sometime develop in plaster. i'm very pleased with the outcome. re hanging things, if u get gyprock speak to the fixers about where u want to put things & what they recommend re plugs thru gyprock & into old walls.there r many plugs now available for different applications - i'm putting a hanging rail around a couple of larger rooms, by simply going thru gyprock and pluging deep into brickwork, but be careful with the gyprock surface when doing this. IMO gyprock is a lot easier to repair than hard plaster. cheers tony 6 11153 Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well. A Renderer I… 12 18102 |
