Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Apr 21, 2009 9:22 pm I have a dark stained suite almost a chocolate wenge colour but the sun seems to have lightened it so I want to stain it dark again as I am having timber blinds in espresso colour in the new house. I bought a tin of walnut stain from bunnings and the guy said if I put that on top it will go dark as its quite dark already. He gave me some stuff to sand it back a bit but it seems to scratch (he said it wouldnt). Can I just put this stain/varnish all in one stuff straight on without rubbing back? Wouldnt it be the same as doing 2 coats but a bit longer apart????? DH cant see anything wrong with the suite and doesnt understand why I want to change it. So I am scared in case I stuff it up, I will never hear the last of it then I really dont want to sand I just want to go straight to the fun bits I was even thinking of getting a new suite and putting this one in the guest room, but that is an expensive excercise at this stage of building a new house Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Restaining a bedroom suite 2Apr 23, 2009 9:03 am Hi Taffy, i believe you will have to sand it back Yep its boring and tedious but if you put the stain right over the top i am guessing it will just run off.
