Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Apr 01, 2007 4:23 pm Has anyone tried Dulux 'Aquanamel" ? It says on the can that it is "highly recommended for doors, architraves, skirting boards....windows, timber trim ....etc" and as this is exactly what I want to paint, I bought some. Three coats later and it's still not covering. I can handle 'see thru' if it involves a member of the opposite...well you get the picture....but it's not exactly what I'm looking for in paint. I prepared and primered according to the instructions, so that's not the problem. Seems to be just a case of the paint being too thin. One coat of decent, turps based enamel later and the job looks a million dollars. If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals Re: Aquanamel 2Apr 01, 2007 6:19 pm Hi Neil,
If you get onto Dulux website, they have a page on their new Aquanamel, I have it in front of me, I have laminated the print out and use it as a mouse pad. http://www.dulux.com.au/html/home/index.aspx If you can’t get anything off the site I’d be checking back with the guys who sold it to you. Let me know how you get on, I was going to buy it for my next project! Just had a look at the website, and there's not really anything there that will explain anything. I bought it at Bunnings, and spoke to their paint guy when I went back to buy the enamel. He wasn't much help really, just saying that a couple of people had said the same thing, but it apparently had only been the white that there seemed to be any comments about. I thought at first that I maybe hadn't stirred the paint enough but it wasn't that. It's only a litre so it's not so bad but I would hate to have bought four litres and have the same problem. I know the feeling of thinking it must be an application error, not enough stirring, too hot, too cold, too jhumid etc. I recently "attempted" to use it on the architraves & quad mouldings for the laundry reno. I used a sealer (clear) then a white primer on the raw timber, before using it, and I had the same hassles. It was like I was painting with Milk! I went to our local independant paint supplier (where I should have gone first) to ask his advice, and he just chuckled & smiled with a very sagacious grin. After a short conversation with him, I realised I was not alone - he gets the same enquiry at least once a month. I went away with a small can of "real" enamel, and some primer to go over the crap I'd already put on the timber (to solve any incompatibility issues). Re: Aquanamel 5Apr 02, 2007 6:23 am In might of that last post, it seems I'm not the only one. So, Michelle, maybe have a rethink and stick with the smelly old turps type enamel If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals Re: Aquanamel 6Apr 02, 2007 9:53 am Thanks guys!! Real easy to work with and fairly durable. Not as tough as gloss paint but depending on your application is better given how easy it is to work with. The guy at Bunnings said it only seemed to be a problem with white. Or perhaps it was just us.... I have not tried another colour (once bitten....) Re: Aquanamel 10Apr 02, 2007 5:36 pm commodorenut I forgot to add, yes I was using white, just like you Neil, when I had the issues. I have not tried another colour (once bitten....) My thoughts exactly. I think I'll be sticking with the old enamel in future. If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals |
