Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Apr 13, 2009 11:19 am Well, the guys in the family has spent the Easter weekend painting our house (we have been given the keys pre handover and have had 'permission' from the builder to do the painting which is great). We have used Solver Smoke Pearl on all the internal walls save for a handful of feature walls. The flooring is a grey ironbark timber floor. I am not sure what colour to go with as a feature for the upstairs sitting room, which will be like a kid's play room - there are the 3 kids bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom. There is a west facing window and a very green outlook, tops of trees etc seen through the window so the room has a feel of being up in a treehouse. The feature wall is on the south side, the east side of the room is the balustrading for the stairs, and the north side of the room is smoke pearl. Any suggestions for a feature colour? I will post a pic later today! Re: Help with colour for feature wall 2Apr 13, 2009 11:28 am How old are your kids? If they are quite young then I would go for a bright red, yellow or green. And then decorate the wall with bright stickers of animals or a rainbow etc. There are wall stickers available on eBay that don't pull the paint off when removed, I have them in my son's room but he is only 2. If your kids are older then a more subtle colour will be appropriate. Is there any furniture going in that room and what colour is it? And what colour is the carpet or floor coverings? Re: Help with colour for feature wall 3Apr 13, 2009 11:39 am Good questions! Kids are 3, nearly 2 and 10 weeks. Floors will be wood - grey iron bark (similar to spotted gum in colouring I guess). Furniture is yet to be bought, so no worries about matching it in. Definitely want a strong colour but undecided as to what - not a red though... Re: Help with colour for feature wall 4Apr 13, 2009 2:25 pm Hey Becster........We are having very similar colours all round. We have also chosen smoke pearl We have matched our colour to a couple of feature colours....1 was Wattyl Donkey(I think its Wattyl) Its quite a dark colour but look great against smoke pearl and also beutiful next to white. Or are you thinking of a fun colour......chalkey blues or greens would look great aswell. So anyway where are some updated photos to have a look at......seeing as you are almost finished Re: Help with colour for feature wall 5Apr 13, 2009 6:02 pm Becster Well, the guys in the family has spent the Easter weekend painting our house (we have been given the keys pre handover and have had 'permission' from the builder to do the painting which is great). Like the idea of a green - want something not too insipid or limey though. Re: Help with colour for feature wall 7Apr 14, 2009 10:59 am Becstar, if you like green, this is one I'm using. As it's not a true green, so it is really versatile and sits well with many other colours. It will be both our splashback colour and our render colour and we'll probably incorporate it as a feature area somewhere. I chose it because we have gums in the yard and it really gives that "bush" feel. It also teams perfectly with terracotta colours and burnt oranges. You could use something like this for the wall then have burnt orange cushions or throws for a splash of colour. Or even mustard or red accessories. I've found it to be quite a versatile colour. I think it would also look great with your flow colour from the sound of it. It's called Army Issue by Dulux. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Will definitely look into the Donkey and the Army issue, would be keen to see in a larger sample/brush out. And here are the latest photos Front of house - pile of bricks is for the retaining wall at the front of the house which will also be rendered. Portico is in limestone blocks.Top colour of render is Solver Vitesse and bottom is Solver Kanga. This is the stairwell - with cardboardy/plywood kind of thing halfway up the wall and running down the side of the stairs. Should we paint this same as the wall or a contrast, and if a contrast, what? We could do whitetone like the skirtings and doors, or would that look terrible?? Also thinking wallaby, which is probably the feature we are going to use in the open plan living/kitchen/dining. Or should we paint to match the feature in the sitting room?? Feature mosaic in the kids' bathroom pre-grout. 3 year old boy's head! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And feature above the vanity, mirror to go above. The other couple of nice green colours apart from Michelle's are both dulux.........Still.....and........depending on how much light there is on the wall......Linseed....this one throws green in different light, although it can also look greeny brown with no light. Bec, I think your should do your plywood stair bit in the same colour as your skirtings and in gloss so you can easily clean it. I am thinking you are having wood on the stairs, is that right? Wall color plays a pivotal role in Wall color interacts with natural light and… 1 4555 hmmm id assume youll get hit with the "natural product therefore variation in colour etc" excuse.
