Re: IKEA PAX Wardrobe Systems - Fantastic 22Apr 15, 2009 1:20 pm gweluphome Thats good to know Badh, 5 years is definately long enough to know good quality. I agree. We have a Billy Bookcase bought at least 5 years before. As long as you don't put anything wet on the bookcase, the bookcase should last. My granny at one point decided she wanted to put her very wet toothbrush and mug on top of a short Ikea bookcase. As this is not solid wood, the top layer at the corner where she put the mug peeled off and looked warped and some of the wood looked like it was rotting. Needles to say, we put a stop to that! Otherwise, the rest of the cupboard is still good! Re: IKEA PAX Wardrobe Systems - Fantastic 23Apr 16, 2009 10:10 pm Annietom hey do us all a favour and tell us the prices you get (comparing IKEA with the specialists) I'd be really interested how much we save with IKEA... and quality too... please Keep us informed! Annie Well, I had the wardrobe people out today - will be getting a price in the next day or so... BUT, I don't think I'll be going with them, as we have an odd shaped walk-in, the sizes they offer don't really make the most of the available space. I've come up with the design below - according the the IKEA planner, the cost is around $1,400 Top view His and Hers shelves / draws on each side. Single & double hanging at the back. A full height mirror near the door and a couple of smaller units below the window. Re: IKEA PAX Wardrobe Systems - Fantastic 24May 20, 2009 10:33 pm Dragging this one up from the dark ages.... I said I'd given an update when we decided on our wardrobe... Well, we ended up deciding to go with a custom made wardrobe done by our builder. Cost is roughly the same as the IKEA solution, but we can use every inch of space by going down the custom path. From the doorway (I still need to put in the other bank of draws) Taking a step in and looking to the right And the last side (those small shelves is a shoe rack) Re: IKEA PAX Wardrobe Systems - Fantastic 25May 29, 2009 7:58 am Looks good esg! I've played with the IKEA designer thingie and can't get a good fit for our WIRs - no matter what combinations I use, I end up with wasted space. So I think a custom fit-out is going to work better for us. It doesn't have to be expensive. My mother had a triple built-in robe fitted out professionally with shelves, some drawers and hanging space for around $700. My sister, on the other hand, has a quote for a largish custom built-in unit for $9000. I'm confident that we can do the kids built-ins and our two WIRs plus some shelving in the extra-large broom cupboard for a lot less than that.... I have a local company in mind, and if we go for plain white melamine and a fairly basic fit-out, I doubt it will get too expensive. Timber finish, fancy fittings and so on would be nice, but there are too many other things that require funding at this stage. Re: IKEA PAX Wardrobe Systems - Fantastic 26Jun 03, 2009 12:03 am Looking at esg's walk-in robe pictures, you do realise that with those 'curtain rods' (yes that's what they are, although 'wardrobe experts/installers/sales people/builders' will convince you otherwise) they will bow to a serious extent over time from relatively standard use. At that point the force on the screws in the flanges will be so great that they will pull through the board, leaving you will a damaged upright and a pile of clothes? What's more, depending on how much your going to put in that W.I.R, how are the fixings on your end and cleats? Is there at least one permanently fixed shelf in each of the two adjustable shelving units in the second picture? If not the movement of standard use will once again create further problems in relation to the board bowing and creating a long term mess. Just some things to consider when getting a 'built-in' W.I.R. Deviant.SA - Noticing build quality differences since 2005 Normally you use builders bog. Polyurethane painting is basically the same principle as car panel beating and painting. All the prep work is the same and so is the… 3 3077 Probably a not bad thing to mention particle board should in case anyone else reading this got the two confused. 6 4906 |
