Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jan 24, 2009 8:25 pm Hi everyone,
Joined up here today and have been reading for hours on end and now decided I would put the question out there! Is there such a thing as to much white? Basically I'm a 22yr old guy living in my first home all by my lonesome, however I am sick of the house being all white. It needs some colour! I do want a feature wall behind the tv and was thinking along the lines of a red, to match the red shaggy rug of course! Attached are a couple of pictures of the living/kitchen area, please excuse the dishes! My idea was originally designer lady red on feature wall and antique white usa on the remaining walls, wasn;'t sure how it will go with the white shutters though! I think your furniture is doing a good job of breaking up the white and adding some colour. Feature wall would be great, but you could also add colour with pictures/art, lamp shades and pillows. Re: Too much white! 4Jan 25, 2009 6:27 pm thanks guys,
to me its too plain, white tiles white walls everywhere except the bedrooms! I like to have some colour. I know the couches are no good but until some money frees up I will have to make do, the blue goes with bugger all! time to try more sample colours! feature wall 5Jan 26, 2009 8:28 am I am a big colour fan and as much as I love all white (and will be using a lot of it in my new home) I know it will bore me after awhile. My 2cents worth is that a feature wall will be fantastic there, but the red maybe just a little too strong. Try an earthy tone that GO's with red and then you can throw in a few more red accents to go with the rug?
Don't be afraid, after all it's only colour. Good luck, like to see a piccie when it's done. themax Re: Too much white! 7Jan 26, 2009 10:44 am Nice shade of green, d@n. However, I think maybe for a guy I'd go toward ochre/mustard. How about something like this :

Well, I like it anyway.....have just gone through 6 pots of sample pots today trying to find external colours, so what do I know?
themax Re: Too much white! 13Jan 26, 2009 6:21 pm Good choice themax. I'd go olive too.
Atleast it's not in your face & it's a colour you won't quickly get sick of. And I think it's a more masculine, classy colour. It particularly goes well with dark brown furniture. Our lounge room in our previous Edwardian house had cedar skirtings, picture rails & windows. We used an olive shade in that room & it was just stunning. The wall already has a TV unite a TV and an aricon on the wall, not walls I like to do as features, it’s already got a bit going on. How about the wall with the white shutters? Is that lounge of yours a grey/blue? Michelle, the lounge is a dark blue with white stripe though it however it will be getting chucked for 3 seater + chaise in a few months, undecided on colour. do you think red would go with those shuters? that is the main back wall to the decking outsie, so would see it even walking thgrough the front door. the place is small i tell you haha Re: Too much white! 17Jan 27, 2009 8:23 am As much as I love the red wall... for longevity, resale etc if you want a colour I would go a coffee brown colour and add colour through the use of artwork and cushions and rugs etc (like an aqua or red). Ditto leaving the wall white and adding colour through other means - that way if your taste changes it's easy to change a cushion! A good idea is to go to a local display village and have a look at their decorating ideas. Re: Too much white! 19Jan 27, 2009 11:58 am Get your new lounge first!
Then we’ll take another look at it.
