Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 11, 2008 11:37 am Hi,
I think I'm ok with this facade, I'm getting used to it, it's looking better with some landscaping. That tall silly looking thing will be some kind of palm tree! What do you think? My other option is to pay $8k to have the balcony and display facade, then I wouldn't be able to have the colorbond roof. I like this but I don't know if it would look as good in brick, and I want to have some brick on the front as I want the house to be mostly brick for maintenance and also cost. I also am getting a colorbond roof - I think they are gorgeous and the colour choices are so much more interesting Good choice My karma ran over your dogma Re: Bloody Facade! Update: Small block, can I block porch? 8Nov 11, 2008 1:30 pm Yes I like your version better too Rachelle. Beautiful
The landscaping is nice, but the palm tree... is it supposed to balance with something I'm missing? Maybe it might look better with 2 of the short plants instead of one long, one short? Or 2 long ones? Re: Bloody Facade! Update: Small block, can I block porch? 9Nov 11, 2008 1:36 pm I love yours, it looks fantastic. Love the different greys. We now have a blog. http://allaboutthebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Bloody Facade! Update: Small block, can I block porch? 10Nov 11, 2008 7:07 pm definitely your facade.
Much more modern looking. Re: Bloody Facade! Update: Small block, can I block porch? 11Nov 11, 2008 7:57 pm Thanks everyone!
Donuts I was kind of trying to break up the uniformity of those four windows, so thought it might look good to have a big cycad (thanks to hubby for finding me what I wanted) on one side, and then a short fat one on the other. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kind of like in this pic, which has the spread cycad and a palm. We might even do one cycad and a palm tree if we can find one that doesn't grow too big. Update: Small block, can I block porch? 14Nov 11, 2008 9:59 pm Rachelle...I like your facade...but on principle I wouldn't go for the upgrade anyway because I've never seen anyone put those dicky little upstairs balcony to good use....great for having a coffee and watching cars go past... ...apologies in advance to those with dicky little balconies.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Bloody Facade! Update: Small block, can I block porch? 15Nov 11, 2008 10:10 pm I once had a dickie little balcony and all it was, was hard to clean and a waste of perfectly good indoor space. We always sat downstairs in the Alfresco. Unless you have views of something special then it becomes less dickie and more important.
I like your facade Rachelle and i think you have such a good eye so far that its going to look awesome in the flesh regardless. The planter box is a really good idea to give some different dimensions to the front...........I am taking tips from TDL and getting arty farty with my vocab. Re: Bloody Facade! Update: Small block, can I block porch? 20Nov 12, 2008 8:12 am Rachelle, I agree with everyone else, I wouldn't waste 8k on a balcony you'll never use.
You're using nougat bricks is that right? And Dune roof? I tend to agree with Lyn and TDL about the dark guttering, but then I am a fan of using a dark colour somewhere to ground the look. I have a pic I'll PM you. It's of a two storey house that has used Nougat bricks and a quite light roof. It has Paperbark fascia and windows and Jasper guttering. And it is screaming out for a darker colour somewhere, it looks a little washed out. When I was looking at it I thought if the guttering was Woodland grey or Monument it would look so much better. But it isn't finished so there may be some render somewhere. But again, I personally like really light bricks with abit of something dark to make it pop a bit. Does that make sense?
