Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 04, 2008 7:01 pm If you have a walk-in robe are you having doors on your units? ie will your clothes be seen or hidden behind sliding / hinged doors?
Our walk-in is approx 3m x 3.2m and we are looking at the Ikea Pax system but our issue is - DH wants to just install the units whereas I love the idea of having doors on all the units so you can't see into each individual unit unless the door is open. Maybe because I know how messy cupboards look and he probably doesn't really care Re: Walk-in Robes Question 2Nov 04, 2008 7:20 pm Hi kyton, I just voted 'yes' but then read your post and I think I mis-understood the question
We will have a door into the WIR general area, and a door out of it into the ensuite (it's a walk thru one). But no doors on the actual cabinets themselves. Re: Walk-in Robes Question 7Nov 05, 2008 5:53 am No doors for us either. Just wastes time when I'm running late! After 4 years - we're in! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Walk-in Robes Question 11Nov 05, 2008 1:53 pm I voted no even though I don't have WIR. If I did have WIRs then I woudl not have a door. In fact, I'd argue that a WIR ceases to be so once a door is put on it.
Edit: Just noticed that Joles already stated exactly this. One day I hope to be as fast as Joles! Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Walk-in Robes Question 12Nov 05, 2008 2:01 pm Kyton, that isn't a WIR - it is a dressing room!
As a dressing room (with room for a chair and large mirror) I'm thinking that you could have doors. We just have a tiddly little WIR so no doors there. Re: Walk-in Robes Question 14Nov 06, 2008 12:10 am I voted no but your idea has merit ... keeps the wir looking neat and tidy.
Ours is looking like a jungle atm. It might be nice if I didn't have to face DHs untidy side of the wardrobe every morning . At the same time it is nice to have easy access, and not having to open/close doors while hunting for the right top to wear. I seem to spend a lot of my time circling our kitchen opening and closing doors and trying to find glasses, pots, plates . Re: Walk-in Robes Question 15Nov 06, 2008 5:44 am No No No, like Jo said - it then becomes a room with robes.
You may as well save space and have robes on the walls in your bedroom. The point of a walk in robe is to be able to see all your clothes and accessories at the same time to be able to co-ordinate your outfit for the day "Mmm I think I'll wear that red top today, oh and thank god I saw those shoes that match, I forgot I had them!!" Had they been in the cupboard, I might have overlooked them and worn ones that didn't look as good Paula Re: Walk-in Robes Question 16Nov 06, 2008 9:49 pm Paula No No No, like Jo said - it then becomes a room with robes. Normal wardrobes have doors and I wouldn't call that a room Interesting point I_Build - my "dressing room / walk-in-robe" doesn't physically have a door in the entry - only a squareset entry - so therefore is it not really a room at all? I only asked the original question as I personally can't stand seeing into my wardrobe - I wish I was someone who was so organised that I would colour-code my hangers / clothes into degrees of colour but since I am not and since DH is the sort of person who throws (for the lack of a better word) his clothes wherever they land, then doors on each of the robes seems like a tidier solution.
