Browse Forums Finishing Touch Re: My new wall hangings and Mother's Day present LOL 81Jun 22, 2010 4:59 pm Few new photos of our home. We had our solar thingy updated recently - can you tell I know all the technical lingo LOL. We have heaps of panels on our roof (lucky for us our best friend owns a solar business so he knew what we should get). Apparently this red box sends back to the grid any power we don't use ourselves - like that would ever happen!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ DH has been working like a trojan over last Wed and then the weekend to build a timber boardwalk from the deck down to my clothesline and then to the edge of the pool fenceline. There will be a 10m x 8m freestanding pergola built parallel to this fence. We are trying to decide whether to go with a timber pole & tile roof or alternatively the same bricks as the house and tile roof. There will also be a raised garden bed along the side of the boardwalk / trampoline. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also finally finished the kids' fort. So far the kids area has the fort and the trampoline. There will be stepping stones from the boardwalk to the trampoline. The entry to the fort area will have huge timber poles standing upright and we are thinking of getting our signwriter to make a huge sign with the children's names above the entry. We will have softfall poured all around the kids area to minimise nasty spills. Discussions are still in progress whether DH gets to make a tunnel with a huge concrete pipe sunk into the ground - I am not sure about it (can see it will lead to water pooling and lots of dirty children LOL) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The front yard is still in progress. Grass was grown earlier in the year but now we are just finishing off garden beds / tree placement. We also have to finalise the panel inserts and electric gate to the entry of the property. The brick home on the left of these photos is remaining as our rental property - my parents will eventually move there when they decide to downsize. The ramshackle house and sheds on the right side will be demolished in the next few months when the in-laws have their plans approved through council. We need to have the front yard completely done by October 16th as this is when my 40th party is being held . The backyard is due to be completed fully (haha we still have another 1000sqm to landscape behind the pergola!!) by Christmas 2010 - we will see!! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: An update on our house 82Jun 22, 2010 6:29 pm Oh it's looking so great Kyton I had to make sure my kids weren't in site of the screen when scrolling through the pictures of your backyard Didn't want them to think that's all standard with a "new house" Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: An update on our house 83Jun 23, 2010 9:02 am Bel - that is all DH's doing. We back onto a park / reserve and my Mother keeps telling him that any kids walking by would ask to come into our "park" instead LOL. DH's reasoning is that because we are on a pretty main road he wants the kids to have plenty to do within our fencelines. That way they can invite their friends over - when they get to that stage - and play safely in our yard. I must say that I am hanging out for the electric gates - I had my first two lots of door knockers last month - which greatly amused me. We are some 60-70 metres from the road down a private driveway - didn't stop the JWs from coming down to try and chat to me. Once the gate goes on the intercom will be moved from the front door to a pole near the rental's garage. Family members will have their own codes to enter as they please but anyone else will need to be buzzed in. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: An update on our house 84Jun 23, 2010 11:00 am I love looking at the progress pics of your house, it's really looking nice. Did you end up taking any pics of those necklace frames hanging on the wall? Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Just lovely - the decking is fantastic.... My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: An update on our house 86Jun 23, 2010 11:51 am Hels - no we are slack. They are still sitting in the study. We decided to take advantage of the sun to do the boardwalk / clothesline. DH has been busy unpacking our two storage sheds that we had packed to the roof when we sold our last home in March 2007!! So things are transitioning from one suburb to our garage slowly into the house.... MPJC - my Mum's friend says the same thing....... maybe that is a way to reduce the mortgage LOL. DH and one of our employees did the deck - as well as our adopted Grandfather. They did a lovely job and then DH decided to do the walkway whilst our employee was on holidays. There will be frangis planted in the pool area as well as around the trampoline. Then the planter box will be planted out with low plants for the kids to enjoy. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Oh so Happy... 87Jun 24, 2010 9:23 am Nothing to do with our house....... But we just had word that DD has been accepted into the local Catholic school next year. She is starting kindy and we had a choice of 3 local schools to go to. The closest one is a very disadvantaged school and so we were a little reluctant to go there (also has a bad reputation). The next choice was one of the best schools in our city, has the highest feeder average to the selective high schools BUT it is huge, close to 800 students. There are 4 kindy classes alone this year - which worries me that some children get left behind in the wash. So our third choice was a little Catholic school around the corner which only has 280 kids in the whole school. But we aren't Catholic so had to have a full interview with the principal and then wait the outcome of the intake of Catholic families first. YIPPPPPPPEEEE - they only had two non-Catholic placements and we were offered the first one. Have never seen DH move so quickly - was there paying the deposit within 15mins of the phone call offering us the place. So happy so very happy I could sing......... (but only quietly since baby is sleeping LOL) Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Oh so Happy... 88Jun 24, 2010 9:30 am Your house and yard looks fabulous kyton please adopt me I want that fort. It's a great idea to have them close when playing, the outside world is scary these days. Congrats on the Catholic School placement I would love the thought of a small personal school...AROUND THE CORNER and she won't be just a number. Re: Oh so Happy... 89Jun 24, 2010 10:28 am Your home Kyton is coming along very nicely. Love your work. Re: Oh so Happy... 90Jun 24, 2010 10:51 am Oh wow Kyton, just had a catch up on your progress. It's gorgeous. Love the kids "park", now they'll all be wanting to go to your house for playdates. Love the decking, fabulous. Congratulations on the school acceptance. I know how that feels as DD has been accepted to an out of area High School (but local, just not our feeder school) for next year. DD grew wings and flew when she heard. It's a load off your mind now. Hopefully all will be done for your big FOUR - OH in October. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Oh so Happy... 91Jun 24, 2010 10:56 am it looks great kyton! well done to DH on the decking, the yard is going to look fabulous when its all done. and the entrance to your property looks very grandand imposing! Try a country school with only 10 kids in the whole school, lol. Catering for grades prep to 7. Re: Oh so Happy... 94Jun 25, 2010 11:38 am http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Smileys/LoveItSmileySplash.gif Oh your home is stunning! Dont know how these photos escaped me! So envious of your space! Re: Oh so Happy... 95Jun 25, 2010 12:38 pm kyton But we just had word that DD has been accepted into the local Catholic school next year. Fabulous news, it's such a relief isn't it when they get into your school of choice. We had bought the block of land we are building on, but obviously weren't living on it. When we went to enrol DS, we actually had to apply for an out of area position, as we weren't living there yet The thing was, when we received our acceptance, it said he was accepted as he was in area! Grrr the hoops you have to jump through...... Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Oh so Happy... 96Jun 25, 2010 12:50 pm Erin - thank you. That was the whole reason we bought the place (and originally the house next door). DH really didn't want neighbours but we also had to be close to our business. This way we are in the middle of suburbia but have minimal neighbours. The land sat on the market for a year after DH's Grandfather passed away - we had always wanted it but didn't want to ask FIL for any special favours. We finally asked them if they would want to live next to us. Luckily they said yes so we only had to buy out the two wicked aunties. Bel - I am so glad that our DD got into the school. I was procrasinating so much about the other choices that I haven't done anything about them. So I was very lucky that we got a nod otherwise I would now be scrambling!!! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Oh so Happy... 97Jun 29, 2010 1:08 pm Hello I was just reading your thread and your house is so gorgeous! I love the cedar windows! What garage door did you choose? Is this called Cedar Colorgrain? Also LOVE your tiling bathroom colours. Ohh you got a freestanding bath. We wanted to do that too. 1st Tender - 20 March 2010 Slab - 14 August 2010 Frames - 31 August 2010 Roof - 11 September 2010 Bricks finished - 2 October 2010 Lock up - 15 October 2010 Keys - 10 December 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=41002 Re: Oh so Happy... 98Jul 01, 2010 11:11 am Thank you for the kind words - this is our dream home and we are never moving hence choosing very personal colours when doing all the rooms. Both the windows and the garage doors are actually aluminium manufactured by Dowell (windows) and Steel-line (garage). They both use Decrowood products which "mimic" real timber. We didn't want endless upkeep that real timber sometimes means - so this was perfect for our needs. The freestanding bath I cannot take credit for - although I did locate it. I personally hate baths - much prefer my lovely big shower. But the kidlets and DH adore it - they sit in it with the spa jets going watching the TV that is mounted on a facing wall. Way too much time on their hands if you ask me LOL..... Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Oh so Happy... 100Jul 16, 2010 3:24 pm Thanks Barbs - we love it. It is truly a home - not a house. Messy most days but full of love, laughter and running / screaming kidlets (other then Master Precious 6mths who is happy to be a slug on the floor LOL) Some things are worth waiting for. I’m just in the process of replacing 2 stud walls that have been severely damaged by termites and am planning to use h2 blue pine. I just wanted to if anyone can advise… 0 53071 So it seems like they just take on a lot of projects to get the cashflow for their own builds. COULDN'T AGREE MORE 14 45655 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 8210 |
