Browse Forums Real Estate 1 Aug 01, 2011 2:27 pm Hi All, I'm a newbie to this site. We've arrived in Australia just a year ago. We have been staying in Strathfield since then. Off late, we have been planning to buy a home in Sydney. The problem is we dont know much about good/bad suburbs in Sydney. As my husband works in the CBD,having a 2 year old son, and I'm not working at the moment, but planning to start job hunt soon! We once visited one of our family friends in Panorama estate in Glenfield and liked the estate a lot. When we thought of buying a property, the first location that came to our mind was Panorama at Glenfield. As per our plan, we have a flexible 3 months time to plan and choose a property! I loved this forum for its quality!!! .. Our priorities while property hunting are: 1. Looking for home & land package/ semi-detached house with 3 bedroom/2+ bath/2 garage in a nice real estate community feel area. 2. Prefer to have good child care centres/schools nearby. 3.Should have a train station. 4. Commute to CBD within an hour by train.Express train stop preferred. 5. Should fall in our budget of $4,50,000. 6. Personally, prefer a lot of area around house, but we can compromise as our budget is only $4,50,000. We are not really adamant on a particular suburb(maybe coz we don know much about!!) of Sydney. While searching recently on www.realestate.com.au, I have been looking at Panorama @Glenfield(not interested in Glenfield as such, read too many bad comments about this place! donno if to rely on all the comments i read about it!), Woodcroft(no train station), Wattle grove(no train station),Cranebrook(too far and no train stn),Sutherland(Its only an apartment we get for this price and dont want to invest our first home in an apartment, though suburb is suppoed to be good), Same with Cronulla, Hornsby,Carlingford line. Campbelltown seems to have fine houses but I'm not sure of the area though(???), Prestons(have some interest, though there is no train line..read there is a very nice Catholic school-William Carrey there..Our friends in Panorama, Glenfield send their kids to this school in Prestons). I sincerely hope some of you out there can provide advices, suggestions on how we proceed further on with our hunt. Shilpa Re: Calling all those who plan to buy new properties in Sydn 2Aug 03, 2011 8:34 pm Go on domain.com.au as well. It just takes a lot of time to narrow down a search and with a budget of $450,000 (write the comma in the correct place or it looks like 4 and a half million dollars at first sight )you will have to sacrifice some things on your wish list. Essentially you have to decide between going for a smaller place in a nicer area, or buying a larger place in a less attractive area. Once you make a decision about this your search will become easier because you have eliminated a whole part of the market. You need to do a lot of driving around and stopping at supermarkets and coffee shops. Go into the local libraries and look at the notice boards to see what community activities there are and get a feel for the area. Walk the streets and talk to people in the area. Aussies are a talkative lot and will not be short of opinions. Sorry I can't be more help with specific areas. Good luck. Hi mate, How's the train to CBD during peak hours? Also, any CONS so far? TIA Calling all those who plan to buy new properties in Sydney!! 5Oct 01, 2011 5:16 am Hi Tia The train takes 45 mins from the city, a fast one. We still have to find out good doctors and the nearest hospital. But so far so good.
