Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 2Nov 15, 2009 9:17 pm grace_slick Anyone ever had their property bought / attempted to be bought by a developing company? What happened? Got a knock on the door one day from this guy... mid 20's and quite sleazy. Introduces himself and says he's the owner of the next two houses. After the initial shock of that info... he then asks if we have 5 minutes to chat. The chat was basically to explain what he had planned and also find out if we would be interested in selling. That's how it began....but I won't go into how it ended. Too long a story. Same thing happened around the corner from me but from a much bigger developer. They are usually very pushy and persistent in hassling you with letters and door knocks. They targeted 4 homes. All the owners got together...had a meeting and vowed not to sell. But one sold and the rest fell like domino's under the constant pressure and the irresistible offers. It's quite sad really because the houses got pulled down and it's been a big empty paddock for a few years now. Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 3Nov 15, 2009 9:32 pm Oh yeah, we see that a lot around here. Huge vacant development lots just sitting empty and overgrown for years and years. Annoying when it's a commercial lot, and sad when it's an ex-house. I do find it sad to think of any building where you live eventually being knocked down, but at the same time, this would really be the ideal situation for me...I'm not happy where I live, eventually we'd want to sell but right now it's not financially practical, and so if a developer knocked on our door and wanted to buy the block and offered us more than we could hope to get from a private sale, especially lately with the housing market being how it is, that'd be perfect...sad, but perfect. No agent fees, no inspections, no stress...hmm. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 4Nov 16, 2009 7:20 am I think development is excellent, I live in an older area with many fibro houses, slowly they are all going and getting replaced with new ones. It makes the area much nicer, as many of the old houses are in states of disrepair. I think they are planning on doing this with the house next door to me, as they have allegedly bought the corner house, but my pesky neighbours are still there. Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 5Nov 16, 2009 7:38 am buildingwithhamra I think development is excellent If development you mean huge multi storey complexs crammed with tiny 1 or 2 bed apartments that sell for hundreds of thousands. IMHO I don't find them attractive at all and certainly wouldn't want to live in one. To them it's all about making money. Nothing more, nothing less. The Melbourne 2030 plan is destroying the ambience of suburbs. Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 6Nov 16, 2009 11:39 am What's the Melbourne 2030 plan!?!? What areas are they planning on developing? I'm from Melb originally and I don't think it needs any big developments really. MY area, yes. I'd like some more. I just sort of wish they'd choose my block so I could buy my "dream" property! lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 7Nov 16, 2009 12:27 pm grace_slick What's the Melbourne 2030 plan!?!? It's this ridiculous "plan" that the Bracks gov't introduced to create higher density housing. Silly things like removing restrictions on the height of developments to increasing capacity, lets developers build basically whatever they want. And locals are powerless to fight against it. A lot of disputes go to VCAT but that process is a joke. wiki explanation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_2030 official site http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/melbourne2030online/ Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 8Nov 17, 2009 11:42 am Oh wow, I didn't even know that!! I was there when Bracks was in (one of my best friend's dad was his personal driver, lol)... I think the suburbs should have restrictions on height...certain suburbs anyway. My parents live in Brighton and I mean, can you picture a hundred 30 storey buildings there!? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 9Nov 17, 2009 1:06 pm grace_slick My parents live in Brighton and I mean, can you picture a hundred 30 storey buildings there!? It's not that extreme. But what was a 2 storey restriction is now a 4 or 5. It's a shame really because all the nice old homes with gardens are going. It changes the whole ambiance of the street and suburb. Developers love it because they make lots of money and the gov't does it so they don't have to spend money on infrastructure in the outer burbs. Re: Has anyone had experiences with developers buying you out? 10Nov 17, 2009 4:22 pm Yeah, I don't mind certain development happening, but...it would be such a shame to lose all those nice old houses with gardens and stuff...*sigh* Oh well. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! 4 14259 You have mandatory building inspections and privately engaged building inspections. The difference between the two comes down to inspecting the building so it's safe and… 3 18058 That is a really good attitude Akin to you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I do enjoy watching that tik tok inspector from Victoria but he does go a little… 12 81847 |
