Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 03, 2008 12:47 pm Our main bathroom and ensuite doors creak incredibly loudly and it sucks.
The main bathroom door handle used to be terrible too, it’d literally SCREAM/squeal whenever it was turned, but we got this stuff from Mitre 10 called Dry Lube or something, for $15, and sprayed it into the door knob bolt thing, and it seemed to fix it, yay! But we also tried this same spray on the actual door hinges and it hasn’t done a single thing. *sigh* The door creaks at every stage when opened and closed, and even if you walk past it, it’ll creak just from that slight movement. The ensuite door is worse in terms of the loudness. It’s such a small room and everything echoes really loudly in there, and my partner goes to bed earlier than me for work, and I do not want to have to resort to having 2 toothbrushes, 2 cleansers, etc in the bathrooms (one in each) because I can’t use my own damn ensuite because the incredibly loud door wakes her up when I go in or out of there at night before I go to bed! Is Dry Lube meant to work on this or not really? I did ask the guy at Mitre 10, and I originally just asked for something to stop a creaking door, and maybe graphite powder or something, but he said this stuff was better. BUT IT DOESN’T WORK!!!! (I sprayed a LOT onto the hinges and even all up and down along the door too, and it DID seem to improve significantly after about 10 minutes, but then within 2 hours, it was back to its normal loudness) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Incredibly LOUD creaking doors! 2Oct 03, 2008 2:48 pm Can't say I've heard of Dry Lube, but WD40 or RP7 always do the trick for my squeeking doors. one spay and never hear them again. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it. W.C. Fields Brought Established. Re: Incredibly LOUD creaking doors! 3Oct 03, 2008 6:02 pm I agree with Wingies, I'd just give the hinges a squirt of WD40. Otherwise, take the bottom hinge off, take it to your local hardware store of choice and see if you can get an identical replacement for the lot. Re: Incredibly LOUD creaking doors! 8Oct 04, 2008 7:03 pm You know what? I THINK the problem may just be fixed.
Today at Bunnings we couldn't find any WD40 *surprised at this* but got this other stuff for just $2 (!!!) called No More Squeak or something, and it seems to have worked a treat!! If It was squeeky hinges then the problem is solved easily as you have done. If it is a squeeking noise from the timber them it could be that the hinges are just a very tight fit into the door frame. The WD-40 or stop squeek you bought should fix that problem aswell but it could take a few weeks and a couple of sprays to settle and be totally squeek free. Re: Incredibly LOUD creaking doors! 10Oct 04, 2008 10:47 pm Well, it's been about 2 hours or something (maybe a bit more actually), and they're completely squeak/creak-free. YAY!!! SUCH a nice relief! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Incredibly LOUD creaking doors! 12Oct 04, 2008 10:56 pm Ah, really? Clever!!
I'm so impressed by this spray. It was only $2 and it works!! The $15 one didn't do anything! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Incredibly LOUD creaking doors! 13Oct 06, 2008 6:16 pm mel what about lanolin? That stuff is fantastic! It is also used in industrial applications to help prevent rust. It is great on my trailer too stops lots of squeeks. and it smells kinda nice ... compared to alternatives. Ain't that the truth! We used to have a tile roof and had it replaced with colorbond and suddenly everything throughout the entire house sounds louder! 4 6636 Hi Stuey, think you’ve got a couple of options here you’d just need to decide your preference/which options suits best.
