Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 03, 2008 12:43 pm We’ve noticed these very small ants (smaller than usual) in our main bathroom and laundry. They seem to only appear en mass every few days. There’ll be none for 3 days and then like last night for example, I killed 6 on the floor and 8 on the vanity bench top. Blegh! I can’t work out where they’re coming from. There was no trail as such. They were just appearing randomly. I looked in the cupboards, nope. All over the bench top, nope. On and in the hot water system, nope. On, in and around the washing machine and dryer, nope. Bath, nope. Toilet, nope. WHERE!? Lol
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting rid of ants for good? It’s odd also because this room doesn’t back onto anywhere outside at all. It’s between our lounge area and the study, and the back wall (where the cupboards and sink are) backs onto another apartment (the smoky one, for anyone who’s read my other thread about that) There’s certainly no food in that room! Weird. It worries us because soon we’ll be getting 2 kittens and their cat trays and possibly food bowls (not near each other!) will be in there, and then the ants will be even worse I’d expect. Ugh. Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 2Oct 03, 2008 1:42 pm When we moved into our current rental place it had ants in under the kitchen floor cabinets. Ant Rid did the trick nicely. They're attracted to the poison and then tack it back to their nest where it kills all the others. C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 4Oct 03, 2008 2:45 pm grace_slick Will Ant Rid hurt kittens? Yes it will, we use ant sand which still is harmful to animals if they eat it. the ants will be looking for water which is why they are in your bathroom. if you are getting kittens and having food bowls make sure you get the ones with the channel around them to fill with a little bit of water to stop the ants getting to the food. ants cant swim If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. HTH I would'nt they don't work at all IMO If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it. W.C. Fields Brought Established. also get some white vinegar and wipe down all your cupboards, benchtops and shelves with it. Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 10Oct 03, 2008 10:06 pm wakeboardandy that ant rid sand works really well... Yep, I agree.... If you know where they are coming from, you can use a powder (ant fix). It won't kill them but if you draw a line around the point of entry with the powder, hey won't cross it... Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 11Oct 03, 2008 11:59 pm Hmm...ok, so that's pretty much a no to any sort of ant rid or bait things with cats around.
We have no idea where they're coming from. That's the annoying thing! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 12Oct 04, 2008 12:04 am I had a huge ant problem a few months ago grace, consistent, constant, never ending ants, in the dishwasher, on the benchtop, everywhere in the kitchen and I could not find a source. Initially I wiped them up with a cloth, then tried ant rid, in the end I sprayed with surface spray each day. I think that is what finally killed them it was a nightmare. Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 13Oct 04, 2008 12:09 am Oh dear, that sounds really bad!
Our ants are mini ones, almost hard to spot unless you're looking right at them. (I hope they're not baby ants, and they're breeding or something!!!!) They're not too bad, but I just want to know where they're getting in. There are absolutely no ants anywhere else in the apartment (including the ensuite) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 15Oct 04, 2008 12:24 am Alright, I'll try that. It is also a bit of a mystery as to why they'll suddenly appear after days of not being there at all. And they're in totally far apart places like some will be on the tiles near the bath, one will be near the washing machine, some will be on the vanity...*baffled* But there's no trail and none whatsoever coming in through the door or around the hot water cupboard or washing machine or anything! Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 16Oct 04, 2008 1:16 am I had a big ant problem when living in perth in a 2nd floor unit by the amount of ants I think the big hill we lived on was a massive ant hill, leave some food on the kitchen bench and within 30 mins there would be a huge trail of ants taking it away bit by bit.
I think they stock up on food for the winter there are usually a few scouts lurking around looking for food and as soon as they find some they tell the troops and the army arrives in the thousands. Thats one good way to find where they come from leave some food and follow the trail, we filled the gap they came from then they travelled from the other side of the unit through another entry point. Re: Ants…where are they coming from!? 17Oct 04, 2008 7:06 pm That is an excellent idea - leaving food and seeing if and from where they come. *planning* How the hell did I become a senior member!?
