Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 08, 2020 10:50 pm I remember back in 1973, i had just finished my time as a carpenter, and returned from a working year long trip around OZ with another mate from trade school. Upon return to Melbourne I got a job with the Government as a carpenter. I was driven to a site within a gov complex with my tool box and given a sketch to frame up 2 offices To make an impression I went hammer and tong at it and when the foreman came around at lunch time I had it all up. He nearly fell over when he saw it all. Most of the other guys working there were old and just passing their time and would have taken a week to do what i did in 4 hours. He made me demolish it all and check the studs in ( it was gauged timber) which I did even though I told him you didn't have too because the plates were the same thickness and it was dried timber. My next job was to put a timber jamb around a double brick cavity internal wall opening. I had some dyna bolts (screw head) in my kit so I used them. When the same foreman came around he said "whats this" I told him they were dyna bolts,He said take it down and use timber plugs and nails. I said I wasn't.He proceeded to try to undo the dyna bolts but off course the head only came off.He demanded I take it off and by this time i am mad and get my wrecker bar out and ripped them off splitting the timber from top to bottom. I was sacked on the spot. Re: The Old Days 3Aug 09, 2020 10:47 am I'm going to PM you two guys a video that discusses innovation being stifled by traditional large company structures and personal examples of how it doesn't pay to rock the hierarchy if you want to remain employed. I won't post it because it is long (17 minutes) and due to the frustrations expressed by one speaker (an Aussie), there is some colourful language. 3in1 Supadiverta.
