Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 03, 2008 8:28 am I've requested a few noggins to assist in hanging towel rails & heavy items like speakers. However our builder has said no, as it isn't 'in their procedures' to do this.
Is this common? I know I can use the vertical studs instead, but surely this limits the positioning of attaching things to walls? Built Metr!con Soho. Re: Builder won't install noggins 3Oct 03, 2008 9:47 am Yep, from what I've read here on this forum, most people just do it themselves when the builders have left for the day! Re: Builder won't install noggins 4Oct 03, 2008 10:07 am A bit of a shame - it's no real effort for them to do it. Our builder put in noggins (to our specifications) for dryer, toilet roll holder x 3, towel rails x2. No cost. How hard is it for them to just lop off a bit of spare frame, and bang in some nails with a nail gun? I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: Builder won't install noggins 6Oct 03, 2008 11:53 am did they say no no? or no, do them urselves?
cos we asked our SS and he told us to do them ourselves on the weekend, cos if he asked his tradies to do them, they would kick up a fuss and want to get paid more to do it so there was spare pieces of timber on the weekend that magically made its way onto our walls...hehehe Re: Builder won't install noggins 7Oct 03, 2008 1:45 pm I think it also depends on the relationship as well...
We always bring some coke/beer & sometimes cigarettes whenever we went on site for all the tradies and supervisor. After that any "minor & not too unreasonable" request like this were all easily settled... Just imagine this: if the SS just spent a few extra minutes on his visit to check a few extra stuffs, would save you lots of trouble/hassle. If the SS just spent a few extra minute in planing/coordinating all the tradies booking could make your house completion date finished at least a few weeks earlier... It's up to you, but we think it's a small "investment" that could generate huge return... That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8623 Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20194 |
