Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 30, 2009 8:17 pm Now that the house has gutters I'm already noticing the amount of leaves etc collecting in them. So I'm thinking we need gutter/leaf guards or something to prevent these clogging everything up. Do they actually work / reduce the how often you have to unblock gutters etc? Anyone recommend good ones? I installed the pvc (plastic) type myself but did alot of cutting and clever fixing (once I worked it all out ) so that they work the way I need them. The stainless steel or powder coated type which are fixed to the shape of the roof are good however there could be a downside;.... When I first installed the plastic type I found that with sufficient leaf build up they would collapse, hence the cutting & fitting to prevent this. I contemplated having the metal type installed, however while they are good you'll still need to regularly (depending on the amount of leaf build up over a short time?) clean them off the guard. The reason being is that the leaves breakdown relatively quickly and this left-over (silt) fine material will build up inside the gutter, at which time you'll need to unfasten the guard to allow cleaning? But I guess the silt clean up could be done once a year or even every other year depending again on the amount of build up, as opposed to clearing the gutter after every big wind!! It's just worth pointing out to help you make a more informed decision. It's all in the planning Re: Leaf / gutter guard - recommendations 3Jul 28, 2020 12:53 am I asked my builder to quote for gutter and leaf guard and they quoted nearly $9000. Is this a reasonable price? It sounds a lot for what I gather. Can the guard be installed after the house is built? If so, who should be intalling it, plumber or a handyman? Or is there some professional gutter and leaf guard installer? No, I even have sections of narrowness where the tiles won't slide up any further.
