Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 19, 2020 9:18 pm Hi all We are builing in a zone deemed "severe" with regards to coastal corrosion. We are within 200m or breaking surf. According to NCC 3.4.4.4 , and if im not woring, structural steel needs to be coated to the following table(please see attached). Our steelwork came out to site fabricated in zincalume steel , welds not even painted - had to really push them to paint and it appears they sent a labourer out with a can of spray paint to do the job, only on the welds. Before the walls even go on rust is leaking out and down the steelwork (no doubt later out the bottom of the wall and all over the outdoor tiles). Im unsure if these locations the steel is located is deemed internal or external. But at the very least we are " severe - internal". Regardless it seems like they need to be finished to a minimum standard, as per the below attached table. They are not done to this standard. What next? Re: structural steel and corrosion 3Jul 19, 2020 11:49 pm Its definitely wrong, I would put something in writing to them ASAP that it doesn't comply as per the National Construction Code Re: structural steel and corrosion 4Jul 19, 2020 11:55 pm Pulse is that a welded bracing panel? It will probably be ok once enclosed. Can you go there and throw some primer on it for piece of mind? yeah i put some cold gal on it but NCC specifies more than that. job was already stopped for a month when all the big I beams turned up painted with a single layer of red oxide paint when it was supposed to be hot dip galvanised (was exterior stuff). Then they told me it was hot dipped but painted over. I scraped it back and found this wasn't the case. So things totally held up for a month now back on track - and now this again. Hi I am wanting some opinions about the build of a steel shed I am going to get one about 4.5 x 2.5 m steel shed and the height will be about 2.3-2.4m high The one I am… 0 10552 Assuming you've modelled the TB8, TB10, TB12, TB2 & J1 joists/LVLs there, it appears as per drawing to me. There maybe should be an additional J1 between TB10 and T12 if… 3 27683 |
