Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 15, 2020 8:24 pm Hello experts, I've paid to level our floor with self-levelling compound (mapie ultraplan eco product was used). The surface after 3-4 days of drying is very powdery in many areas. It sticks to the hand when I run my hand over it, and if I rub a little harder it seems to be coming off. Almost like it hasn't bonded properly. Other areas are absolutely smooth and solid, not powdery at all. I wanted to know if this is normal. Is it that the powder is just on the surface, but underneath it is cured and bonded properly? Why would some areas be so smooth and not others not? The installer is telling me that this is normal and nothing to worry about. But I am very worried, and a bit tired because so it's been a bit of a struggle just to get to this point. Our objective is to install hybrid flooring - and we were advised to level the floor, hence we went down this path. Thank you in advance. Re: Self-levelling compound is powdery after application - n 4Jul 15, 2020 11:04 pm I am not experienced in this, but.. it’s supposed to be solid. You lay tiles on it which last a lifetime. Go to a tile shop and ask one of their tradies what it should be like. Google manufactures and check their installation instructions. Doesn’t matter which make, they’re all much the same, cement with additives. Re: Self-levelling compound is powdery after application - n 5Jul 16, 2020 8:19 am Thanks Berek. It certainly feels solid, just dusty on the top. And if I rub it, i can expose the layers underneath. Maybe it’s not fully cured yet. Other areas are really good. The installer is supposed to be a professional at this and familiar with the product that he uses all the time. I have to believe he knows and followed the instructions. I’ll ask one of the tile tradies - that’s a good idea. Thank You. Maybe be get them to come and have a look. I’m just concerned will it last. I don’t mind it being a little dusty because flooring will go over the top. I read in other posts that this could happen because too much water was used in the mix, and best thing is to be pull it out. That sounded a bit scary. Re: Self-levelling compound is powdery after application - n 6Jul 16, 2020 5:26 pm As per Berek. The installer has either not mixed it thoroughly enough or has added too much water to the mix making it weak. I've seen this a few times in the past. What action did you take and what do you recommend? Did you lay the hybrid flooring? Did all work out ok? Did you seal it prior to laying it?
