Door Heights

Hi All

Is anyone able to answer if its possible to fit 2340mm doors with 2580mm ceiling.

Builder is saying we may need to go custom size door smaller than 2340mm.

thankyou
I have seen plenty of display homes with 2340 doors and 2550 / 2580 ceilings. Not sure what your builder is on about.
thanks very much!.. I thought it was strange that it was said to be honest
I would say this decision is primarily affected by your cornice and architraves. If they are slim profile or square set, I think it will look fine. If they are around the standard 90mm, you will only have around 30-40mm of wall space in between, which IMO will look a bit odd.

Not a builder, but I assume it can be done physically/structurally without issue.

Yes they confirmed this today, will be square set, double doors at end of long hallway - just the architrave so i can get my own doors post build to save their markup
Yes this is a simply setup, we have done 2340 doors with a 2550 ceiling height on our last two houses. A builder friend of mine actually suggested it years ago (he specialises in energy efficient homes) as it assists with air movement, particularly if you are running heaters and wanting it to transfer more easily.

I think it looks good too, and even with our 75mm cove cornice and upgraded architraves (67mm from memory?) there is still plenty of wall to attach everything.

My wife and I walked through a new house the other day during an open house, and she commented on the way out that the lower doors (2040) with the same 2550 ceilings make the doorways feel quite closed in. So I would definitely go ahead with it, it is certainly not a construction issue for your builder.

** [EDIT] ** oh I just remembered really important actually to upgrade the door heights of all your robes etc. With standard 2040 door height you struggle to actually get anything into the top shelves typically. So go the 2340 heights but make sure your top shelves are set to around 1800mm height, not the 1650mm that our builder did for some of our robes....

Here are a couple of pics from our construction last year....

Thought I would mention our builder charged $65 or $70 per door to upgrade from 2040 to 2340mm heights. A bit expensive in my mind but it was one of my main upgrades I wanted....especially for the robes and all the way along the main hallway. The hallway is only 1200mm wide and I wanted to at least open up the doorways along it.

We actually spec'd our main living zone door heights to 2040mm to save some money....and also because two of them were adjacent to external windows....and the head heights were almost a match between the 2040 doorways and the windows. So the arch's aligned which helps with my OCD. Actually I had the chippy add some extra timber to top of the archs on those windows as they were 35mm or so out!

You can also go with frameless full height doors.

No one is doing them in Australia, but in Europe it is a new trend in minimalist design. They can also be completely concealed in a wall.
