I don’t want the sink on the island bench so was thinking of having another separate bench for the cook top or alternatively combining the sink and cooktop. We have room for both options. Could you share pics if you’ve done this. Just trying to see if it’s soo cluttered. The client didn't want a sink on the island so I put it on the back wall. The island is huge (2.8x1.5) with storage all around and breakfast bar. It makes quite a statement. The client likes having the sink and hotplate then ovens in a line. They can work between each of them easily. The dishwasher sits inbetween the hotplate and sink so there is just over 600mm between them. That's why they opted for the mirror to reflect the courtyard garden opposite the kitchen. It would look spectacular if it could have been a window on to a garden. And the mirrored splash back is exactly what I’m going to have too as our pantry will run behind this wall. Re: Kitchen layout 5Jul 07, 2020 1:59 pm I did the same for my kitchen alignment. The only exception I put sink on the left and hob on the right. The idea is that you move from left to right in your cooking process cycle (wash first, then work area for cutting and after cutting, put into the bowl on hob) and if you are right handed - it makes absolute sense this way. But I have a plan which might help: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Kitchen layout 8Jul 08, 2020 8:38 am If you have the space, prefer having separate sink , cooktop and bare island bench. If there is not enough space for three sections in the kitchen, you could use the above layout. Ours will be a smallish kitchen, so we chose the above layout, hope it works out well Re: Kitchen layout 9Jul 08, 2020 9:21 am We've done exactly as you've suggested, with the sink off to the side. This keeps the island as a food prep / breakfast bar / cheese and wine station / social hub / drop zone etc. It's also a good transfer zone for clearing the dining table, which it faces. The wall behind the island is full height cabinetry, with oven, microwave and (integrated) fridge. The galley to the side has the sink, and the cooktop tucked a little bit around the corner which leads to the walk in pantry. The cooktop is the loudest work zone in the kitchen, so the idea was to minimise the intrusiveness of this whilst still maintaining social connection. The pantry is an entirely dry zone, although a second fridge will be located in here as an overflow (drinks and freezer items, mainly).
