This keeps the island as a food prep / breakfast bar / cheese and wine station / social hub / drop zone etc. It's also a good transfer zone for clearing the dining table, which it faces. The wall behind the island is full height cabinetry, with oven, microwave and (integrated) fridge. The galley to the side has the sink, and the cooktop tucked a little bit around the corner which leads to the walk in pantry. The cooktop is the loudest work zone in the kitchen, so the idea was to minimise the intrusiveness of this whilst still maintaining social connection. The pantry is an entirely dry zone, although a second fridge will be located in here as an overflow (drinks and freezer items, mainly).
