Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 20, 2020 2:15 pm Hey guys, We moved into our new house a year ago and really enjoyed the place. However there is an apartment building next to us and every week we hear loud noises coming out from their building, along with smokes coming out from their chimney. It gets unbearable when we sometimes stayed at the courtyard. https://imgur.com/gallery/HX49Ee6 We’re wondering what machine is this connected to and why is it making so much noise? Obviously it’s not a fireplace haha, we’re wondering if it’s for basement ventilation or not. But if that’s the case, wouldn’t the machine be running 24/7 instead of only occasionally? Is there anything we can do about that noise? Like approaching the council or should we just ask their strata manager directly? Are there also any guidelines or requirements on how often the machine can run, and the maximum noise it can exert to the neighbouring area? Sincerely appreciate any help on this! Re: What machine this chimney hooked to, and why is it so no 2Jun 22, 2020 8:16 am I'd approach the council and just make enquiries without lodging a formal complaint. At first glance I assumed it would be a ventilator stack but if there is smoke coming out of it coupled with the noise then that is another matter . When was this apartment building built? Years ago I lived in a ten storey apartment block that had a rubbish chute hooked up to an incinerator that came on automatically when you threw a bag of rubbish down the chute. Probably outlawed now with all the recycling that we do. Is it real smoke like from a fire or just fumes? It may be as you already say, a a bsement ventilation system for the carpark. I’ve given Council a ring today and enquired about the issue, although they also asked me about the intervals that the machine was running, and this is what I’m not sure of. It seems the noise comes on at random, take last Saturday for example, the machine was running at 10AM when we saw the white smoke, but we also heard it at 7PM when it’s dark. Hope this helps to narrow down what sort of machine it is haha. Would council require the exact time that the machine is running in order to do their decibel tests? Or are they fine to just go on site and ask the strata to turn it on while they’re there? The building was built in 2010, so not too long ago 18 90425 Hi, I have a double and whenever the wind picks up I can hear alot of banging in certain areas of the house.
