Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 21Oct 03, 2008 11:36 am For ours, this is what we've specified to our builder. All except the Miele oven were in Choice's list of top appliances in their category:
Oven: Miele H4740 B Dishwasher: Miele G1243 SCU Cooktop : Westinghouse GHL 795S Rangegood: Omega K224-1 Fridge: We already have one:) Greg Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 22Oct 06, 2008 3:25 pm I also have a FP washing machine that I am less than impressed with.
Have had the computerised panel replaced 3 times, last time machine was just out of warranty (grrrrrr). Was told by different FP people MY problems included - doing loads back to back, without allowing the machine to 'rest' between loads; - also that our water pressure was too great (HELLO> we live in Sydney, is our pressure different???); - machine's location was too close to the wall (HELLO> we all want a machine in the middle of the laundry...wot the???) Definitely would say steer clear of FP washing machines. Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 23Oct 06, 2008 9:45 pm we had a LG front loader that crapped out after just a month past the factory warranty ended. yep that extra for the 5 year would have been worth it. repairs were slightly cheaper than replacing it
Now we have a Bosch. Fan-bloody-tastic but it beeps at me when it is done! How dare a washing machine tell me what to do! it beeps till you go crazy and get up and unload it or switch it off or kick it in a fit of crazy till it just slowly stops beeping might read the manual and see if we can switch that function off phhffft -manuals, who needs those saved a motzza off the washer using this site http://www.shoprite.com.au/ $600 cheaper than the best price we could find and their best price was better from a shop we already got a quote from. discounted extended warranty too the Westinghouse fridge has kicked on hassle free for years, Westinghouse bar fridge hasn't skipped a beat in 15 years either. hard to find a long life kettle, then always leak from the window on the side. we had a flash stainless and timber designer one that lasted a smidge over one year Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 25Oct 12, 2008 3:11 pm I dont know about everyone else but i find that side by side fridges double door) look good but are not practical (not enough room in fridge and freezer).
however the recess for the fridges in the new houses are made for that size fridge ( so it will look silly with a smaller fridge) i found a fridge that is double doored up the top ( fridge area) and a large draw down the bottom for freezing. it looked more practical and its BIG it was in the CP cataloge at about 3000 to 4000 !!(we are going to have to hunt around for a good bargin maybe ant scrach and dent sales) Bec Carlisle Atlantique 32sq - Handover 13th Aug... MAYBE? (1 week) Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 26Oct 13, 2008 9:23 am Glad I stumble onto this thread! We are also looking at a dishwasher. It will be our first one as DH has been our dishwasher the past decade
He has been harping on the benefits of getting a 'proper'dishwasher (ie NOT him) so he said we'll go for the best (ie no budget). Yippee! But any ideas? So far it seems the European models like Bosch is the best. As for the vacuum cleaner, I've been the one doing it for the past decade or so. Our old one recently died on us after 7 years (it was a LG) and just bought a new one last weekend. Surprise, surprise, we got the cheapest one! (As it wasn't him using it!) A samsung bagless. Not too good on carpet but it does have a good suction. Only $150 at Bing Lee plus you get an extra turbo brush for hardfloors. Now, we are just looking at a new microwave, fridge and dishwasher! Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 27Oct 20, 2008 5:15 pm Since we arrived here 15 years ago, we bought 420L Westinghouse fridge as it's preferred of my parents. Ten years later, the kids were getting bigger and the demand to refrigerate foods were getting bigger too, so we decided to upsized the Fridge. Coz' of the performance of the 420L fridge, we decided to buying bigger one with the same brand "WESTINGHOUSE". Believe or not until now both fridges are still running well without any single breakdown since we bought it.....FANTASTIC BRAND.
With washing machine, my top loading HOOVER lasted only for 12 years, not bad. It was due to mechanical wear and tear of the timer contacts. My new one now is BOSCH front loading and fantastics machine too. My dishwasher which DISHLEX, already nine years and again encounter no single breakdown. I normally use the dishwasher every other day. For television, my suggestion buy SONY although it's expensive but you will get what you pay as what we experienced. At the moment, we have 3x Sony TV ; 34cm - 14 years old, 76cm widescreen 100Hz - 6 years old and 46 inch BRAVIA X Series LCD TV which is just nearly 1 1/2 years. So far all the sets are all good again without any troubles. And my SHARP convection microwave too is still going and it's 14 years old too although the big capacitor was replaced 5 years ago and since then still okey.....go for the SHARP brand. So all in all, go for SONY on TV, WESTINGHOUSE for fridge, HOOVER ( I don't know the new brand name as the factory closed in Clayton), DISHLEX for dishwasher and SHARP for microwave. GOOD luck and all the best. PROCELO Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 28Oct 22, 2008 8:45 pm sammy Glad I stumble onto this thread! We are also looking at a dishwasher. Yippee! But any ideas? So far it seems the European models like Bosch is the best. Have a look at Asko dishwashers, you can get them in extra high size to allow glasses to fit. They are very well built, efficient and quiet. Oh and easy to use regards sean Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 30Oct 23, 2008 10:37 am We will definitely look at Asko. At the moment, Miele seems to be our favourite as it has a black kickboard that will match our kitchen. Features not to bad. However, just found out that they don't do discounts on Miele, as Miele sets the price and all their stockists must comply. Oh well, won't affect our decision. As for Bosch, we were looking at their top of range built under model but we didn't like the fact that the buttons are at the top of the panel. This means we have to leave a small gap at the top to allow our fingers to press the buttons.
Has anyone had a Samsung fridge? I like the 60cm depth as it fits in nicely with kitchen but not sure quality. Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 31Oct 23, 2008 12:42 pm I just got an asko from Greys online at a great price. They are currently selling for $2199 at Good Guys cheapest I have seen this model is $1950 at appliances online and we paid $1300 brand new from Greys. It will have to be built in to our new place or you can buy a top and side panels if you want it freestanding. The Asko was choices no 1 and this is the latest model. Will post back once it is installed with how it goes Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 32Oct 23, 2008 1:14 pm penny73 I just got an asko from Greys online at a great price. The Asko is bloody brilliant, its quite, dry the dish's perfectly, and there is absolutely no need to rinse before putting them in Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 33Oct 23, 2008 2:16 pm thanks penny73 and snake, will definitely look at Asko. As this is our first dishwasher, we have no way to know which is the best for us. All our family- I mean ALL, do not believe in dishwashers! They only use good old fashion HANDS! We feel like a rebel buying one, hehehe! Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 34Oct 23, 2008 2:23 pm sammy thanks penny73 and snake, will definitely look at Asko. Have to agree. We got one about 4 years ago and am kind of looking forward to the day it kicks the bucket so I can get a fridge I can fit stuff in. If you do a search of her postings with 'samsung' in it somewhere you should find them I have a samsung side by side as per the link below: http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=homeappliances&type=refrigerator&subtype=sidebyside&model_cd=RS20NRVG5/XSA For a family of four its adequate, its quite and the cool air is distributed evenly. My only gripe with it is the ice trays, they are still the type from the 70's. Otherwise its been a great purchase. Re: Let's go shopping - advice on appliances 38Oct 24, 2008 3:06 pm thanks donuts, will definitely have a look.
Never thought of ice trays, Snake. Will talk to DH as he is the one making ice for his "drinks"! Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 17285 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder.
